Villa Marsili -- A Wonderful Experience!
We stayed at Villa Marsili for two nights (June 11 & 12), and the experience was top-notch! When we first arrived, I was somewhat disappointed to see that our room had no view (I had booked a standard room, not a deluxe). When I inquired with the front desk as to whether I could pay extra to upgrade to a room with a view, they were most accomodating (Julia happened to be on-duty at the time -- what a sweet & lovely woman!). Julia informed me that because I booked with Venere.com, she could not give me an upgraded room unless I cancelled my room using Venere and then re-booked, as the hotel must pay a commission to the website for the booking service. However, she indicated that the hotel was not fully booked during our visit, and offered to move us to a different standard room. The new room had a fabulous view of the Tuscan countryside, and the amenities were just as good as those in our original room. I couldn't have been more pleased with the outcome.
The other thing that I must mention is the breakfast buffet. It is, without a doubt, the most lavish spread I have seen at ANY hotel during any of my trips to Italy. They have just about anything your heart could desire, from the typical breads, meats, & cheeses to yogurt, cereal, fresh fruits, pastries, and other mouth-watering goodies. I think you have to see it to appreciate how great it is... my description isn't really doing it justice.
I highly recommend Villa Marsili -- I booked it based on Trip Advisor reviews, and I wasn't disappointed!
Amazing hotel, amazing location
We would highly recommend the Villa Marsili. The staff and accommodation were of the very highest standards.
The hotel staff ensured that we had a wonderful stay, and nothing was too much trouble for them. The maids always knew whenever we left the room and went in to clean once we had left. They even popped back in later in the evening once we had gone out to dinner to close the windows and leave us some new chocolates.
The hotel itself is situated around a 5 minutes walk from the centre of Cortona, however this is up a very steep hill. There are escalators available but these were not operational after 8pm, so the hotel is not situated in a suitable position for the less mobile.
The staff at the hotel provide aperitifs between 7pm and 8pm, which makes for an excellent start before setting off for an evening meal.
One general comment that I would make is that it is very hard to get a taxi in Cortona. We had to wait for nearly two hours at the station when we arrived and when we left the hotel could not find an available taxi so a member of staff very kindly drove us to the station himself.
One place to recommend if you like shopping is the Prada outlet at Montevarchi. My partner bought a Prada suit for only €520.
All in all we would highly recommend both Cortona and the Villa Marsili. We can't wait to go back!
Wonderful staff; nice rooms; perfect location; excellent breakfast; internet connectivity.....by far, the best overall customer experience in our (my girlfriend and I) two week trip to Italy.
Cortona is very beautiful and romantic & staying at this hotel made the overall experience the best. Highly recommended.
hotel with personal attention
All other reviews give the right impression. Good quality, classy, good food, convenient location for cortona. Carparking is on road close by and free. Breakfast IS included. The place is a villa rather than a conventional hotel and it's main attraction is the service provided by the staff who do take the time to go out of their way and make your stay that bit better. Unlike all other hotels, who might do the same, here that pot of coffee on the terrace, or that martinin before you go out at night will not appear on your bill at check out. The only downer I have is that the villa is on the corner of the main road into Cortona (which is a happening little place on its own) hence it is noisy.
