More about Villa San Michele
Go to Anacapri and visit Villa...
by Domo1
Go to Anacapri and visit Villa San Michele, meander around the town, and then take the chairlift to the top of Monte Solaro. From here you can gaze out of the entire island with an uninterrupted 360 degree view. It is truly breath taking. You can then hike down, and visit historic sites on the way or, ride the lift back down.
Hiking the hills
by MonicaLouise
Some of my most memorable vacation moments were hiking the hills of the Amalfi Coast.
By all means, take the bus from Capri to Anacapri - a fantastic experience - but take the less travelled back country path/steps back down through lemon groves. Pick up the "Fenician Staircase" in Anacapri at the end of Via San Michele after passing Villa San Michele and follow it all the way back down to the Marina Grande. These steps were built by the Greeks in the 8th century B.C. - it was the only acces to the sea or the village of Anacapri until 1877 when the current road was built.
Another great hike was from Ravello back down to Amalfi. Again, take the bus up but follow the paths through the hills and enjoy the sumptuous views and local gardens on the way down. There are a couple of tourist offices in Ravello that provide (free) maps of the area and there are numerous trails down, depending on how much time you have. Highly recommended.
POSTCARD FROM FIESOLE

"POSTCARD FROM FIESOLE"
We were entertained over Camparis and Italian hors d’oeuvres by Florence’s No.1 Hotel, The Rocco Forte Hotel Savoy in Florence, which is right on the Piazza della Repubblica, in the very heart of the historical center of the city. I got to see the rooms of Prince Charles, Bono, Sting, Bruce Springstein, etc.
Then we were whisked up to Villa San Michele, a former 15th-Century Franciscan Monastery with a facade designed by Michelangelo. It is located on the hills of Fiesole, just 20 minutes by car from the city center of Florence. This is one of the few places where most of my rich clients spend their honeymoon in Italy. We had our first “Bellini”, which is peach nectar with champagne, with some more Italian hors d’oeuvres. We had a romantic dinner on the house, overlooking the city of Florence and the Arno Valley, while being served by seven waiters at our beck and call to feed our every whim (well not exactly every whim). Too bad we couldn’t stay the night.

Stay at Anacapri or capri?
by vivienpg
I will be going to capri island during Oct for my honeymoon for 2 nites. Will it be more convenient to stay at anacapri or capri island? We will just be going to the blue ghotto, villa san michele or shopping around capri center. Has anyone stayed at Villa Mimosa before? Pls advise on any nice accomodation (and preferable around 90-120 euro), thanks.

We want to visit gardens in Fiesole...Villa Medici de Fiesole,Villa Gamberia, and/or any others. We will have lunch at Villa San Michele and we would like to know how to go about seeing these places nearby. Has anyone done it? open to public? reservation? We love historic gardens, villas, early churches, cloisters, private museums...special magical places....Any thoughts during our Florence visit? We have been to Florence before, seen the Uffizi, which is great and will go agin, but I am sure there are other things in this vein. Thanks for ANY imput!!!

Hello:
The American Horticultural Society arranges visits to private gardens in Italy. You could check it out at: www.ahs.org There is also a garden tour company that specializes in gardens all over europe: www.lucasandrandall.com Perhaps these sources can provide the info you seek.

Hi, I'm sure you will love Boboli Gardens ( Giardino di Boboli ) in Florence. If you cross the river via the Ponte Vecchio bridge ( from the city centre ) you will be about 5 mins walk away. If you like gardens you will love this place.
