Wow! This hostel was absolutely amazing. I was at a hostel that I didn't enjoy so a friend convinced me to switch. We did a bit of research online and found Academy Hostels so the next morning I went there and checked it out. The guy at the front desk was incredibly accommodating and even offered me breakfast. He showed me the room and I was incredibly impressed. It was a mixed room with six beds, but three were on the main level and three were on a loft level, which offered quite a bit more privacy. Each person staying in the room was given a bedlamp. You just placed it on the nightstand and that marked that the bed was taken for the night. The breakfast was one of the worst I've had in Italy, but the place totally made up for it. There was free internet in the lobby as well as a quiet atmosphere that definitely wasn't boring. The location of this place was fantastic. You couldn't ask for a more centrally located place to stay. It was less than one block from the Duomo, which also helped in case you got lost. Florence wasn't my favorite city, but I think I'll go back there when I go to Italy again, just so I can stay in this hostel.
