Vespa Tuscany Getaway Tours

by minicoopertc

Hi! I am interested in taking a Vespa tour of Tuscany. Does anyone know of other tours to take other than the ones advertised with Scooterbella or Italy by Vespa? Scooterbella is much more economical but wondered if there was anyone offering a discount to their tour - now costing about $1350 Euro for 4 days. Thanks!

Does it have to be an organized tour?
In your place, i would rent the Vespa by myself, would study a lot of itineraries, and will go "to the adventure" just having a lot of hotel addresses... Or just "following your nose"!
With a scooter... no one can stop you!

There is a book I suggest you read, it is "Vroom with a View" by Peter Moore. He is an Australian who bought an 1950's Vespa and travelled from the coast to Rome over a 3 month period. It's a great book, he has since written another where he bought another Vesper and went from Naples to Sicily. Just a suggestion but I agree with the other response, do your own thing.

Travel Tips for Florence

by croisbeauty

There are number of streets in Florence which are of exceptional beauty. Some of them we admire because of its important historical sights or palaces, the others because we were captured by an small "unsignificant" detail. The open picture of this tip shows my favourite street of Florence. I dunno the name of the street, it is not that important to me, all I recall it is close to Spedale degli Innocenti. It is the real gem of the medieval Florence, and that is what counts here.

Chiesa di Santa Margherita

by Maria81

In Via Santa Margherita, just go up the street from Dante's House Museum.

It's also known as Chiesa di Santa Margherita dei Cerchi, or Chiesa di Dante (Dante's Church). Not particularly standing out from the rest of the buildings on this rather narrow street, the main interest is inside the church, as well as in the surrounding legends.

This was where he has first met Beatrice who became his muse, and married another woman (though there are some disagreements over this). Dante's wife is buried here, although Dante himself isn't. Legends tell us that this is also the burial place of Beatrice, although this would be against historical customs of the time which stipulated that a married woman should be buried with her husband's family.

Gotta' Get a Prada

by SFHulaGIrl about Prada Industrial (Outlet)

Heavily discounted Prada products. Miu Miu, Helmut Lang, and Jil Sander are also featured. Outlet opens at 9:30 a.m. There is a machine near the entrance; push the button to get a number. In the beginning, 10 numbers at a time are let in. Don't forget to fill out VAT refund forms. Your cab driver will give you his card to call him when you're done shopping. It's best to have a cell phone or an Italian phone card as the phone outside the outlet takes neither coins or credit cards. It was definitely worth the trip for me! Shoes & bags are my vices! Men's ties & belts were 20E, socks were 10E, and shirts were 50-60E. A small selection of women's boots & shoes were 30E to 100E; most others were 120E to 299E. Purses were 170E to 350E; wallets & key cases began at 65E.

Vespa mood

There is no better way to visit Florence than on a motorbike. I know that many think that scooters in Florence and in Italy in general, are a real danger, but please, try to feel how nice is to ride through the ancient streets past the Dome on a spring day...

To rent a scooter check out Alinari on Via Guelfa 85r:
50cc scooters go for EUR 8 per hour and EUR 28 per day. The 100cc mopeds are EUR 10 per hour and EUR 47 per day.

excellent food and service any time of the day

by MissThing606

Now this restuarant is 2 minutes from the Ponte Vecchio so you'd be forgiven for thinking it was a tourist trap but it's far from it. I've been to this restaurant thrree times on my travels to florence and I've only ever had postive experiences.

The golden View Open bar is a fantastic Osteria that is good for lunch or dinner. The serve is always impeccable: prompt and polite. The food is always the best quality. the window tables have views of the Arno and the Ponte Vecchio. One Staurday they had live jazz music.

The chef is great! he's jolly and chatty and opften come sto greet the patrons. the first ime we were there (in a mixed group) he bought us ladies grappa! One word of caution: be sure to clear your plate lest he ask you if the food wasn't; up to par!

on all three occasions, the bill have varied depending on our orders. 2 courses and house wine cost us 20 euros each. three courses and desset costs 37 euros each and fianally two courses, wine from the menu, coffee and grappa (only for the men!) came to avout 50 euros each. Not one meals stands out for me, all of them were great.
