leather bracelets

by apwolf

i hope someone can help. i met a woman who has these fabulous colorful leather bracelets that she purchased from the markets in florence. i have unsuccessfully been web searching to see if anyone stateside sells these. does anyone have any contact info so that i can purchase 2 dozen or so. they were different colors with a snapping silver closure. she said they were several dollars/euros each. i wish i was on my way to italy.

many thanks!

Travel Tips for Florence

The shop-lined Ponte Vecchio,...

by ainhoaflies

The shop-lined Ponte Vecchio, the trademark Duomo, the gem-filled Uffizi Gallery, the turreted Piazza della Signoria and the Medici Chapels.
Thankfully, these unforgettables are all within walking distance of each other.

Now here is chic ...

...just for the contrast with the crocs in the previous tip. I saw some beautiful and elegant stuff in the shops in Florence. Not that I would wear it, frankly I would rather wear crocs, but I like to look at it. There was some stunning men's clothing too. My husband was drooling just a little and that is unusual. A lot of it seemed to be English inspired, if you understand what I mean. A tweedy sort of look. But with an Italian twist. The market was full of really nice leather coats and bags. But even in the market - oh my dear - the prices. I saw some really elegant Florentines promenading, arm in arm, the hat, the gloves, the handbag for the lady, the scarf just so, the haircut. The stance, the attitude, scarey stuff for a harum scarum Antipodean.

Cenacolo di Sant'Apollonia

by leics

Far too easy to just wander past this place; I only knew about it from my guide-book, and the doorway is just a doorway in a blank wall.

It used to be a Benedictine convent, but nearly all of the building is now private apartments. The refectory is still as it was though, and has some beautiful frescoa dating from the 15th century.

One whole wall is covered with a 'Last Supper' by Andrea del Catasgno; a most striking piece, with Judas foremost and very dominant on the nearside of the table. Apologies for the wobbly photo (it's the other ones, not the main one); no flash allowed, and I have dreadful camera shake (and no's on my wish list!).

There are also the remains of a Crucifixion, Deposition and Resurrection by the same artist and, fascinatingly, the original drawings on plaster (sinopie?) are also displayed.

It's free to enter, but only open Tues - Sat from 8.30am to 1.50pm.

Upscale aperitivo

by gfinesilver about Zoe'

Many high class young Florentines come for an aperitivo before going out on the town and some nights the place is overflowing with styly Italians.
Somewhat expensive but a fun experience. Nicer than some places. Points for style

Meal with a view

by rexvaughan about Ristorante Alfredo sull Arno

We spotted this restaurant across the river and decided to try it as it has a "terazza panoramica" overlooking the Arno and with a great view of the Ponte Vecchio. The decor was quite nice as well as the view and the food was delicious. The minestrone was excellent. I don't remember what else we had (it has been so long ago), but we were both well pleased with the meal. Obviously the minestrone was the one thing that stuck in my mind.
