Nice if you don't mind walking
by TripAdvisor Member Jabei
I'll be honest - I like really modern hotels. I don't like "character" hotels that are old and musty but have "character". So this hotel fit the bill perfectly.
It's very modern & clean but could also be seen as sterile if you are one of those that DO like the hotels described above.
The rooms are nice - good bathroom too!!....For once, website photos are not misleading.
It's a pretty reasonable price and the breakfast is much the same as any other Italian hotel I've stayed in - nothing special
Now..the big thing is location......
Firstly, I found it really difficult to find...a taxi is recommended to get there in the first place even if it's only a two minute journey....I walked out of the station in a terrible thunderstorm and got really lost trying to find the hotel.
Once you have your bearings, you will find that it is a 10 minute walk to Il Duomo at tops. Considering the Duomo is pretty much at the centre of Florence, I think that can be considered a very central position. I can only assume that the people who have complained about it's location don't much like walking...if that's the case then Florence is the wrong place to go - period!!
It's true that there is not much around the hotel like bars or restaurants but that didn't worry me.
All in all, I would certainly return to this hotel if I'm ever in Florence again.
Great hotel

Great hotel to stay at for a weekend break in Florence. The hotel is clean and the rooms are very comfortable.
The hotel is a little way out of the centre but is near a couple of the sites including the amazing frescos in the San Marco monastry which is very close by.
Very friendly staff who suggested 2 brilliant local restaurants for us to try which were away from the tourist areas.
The restaurant in the hotel gave us free glasses of prosecco at the start of our meal and as hotel guests we qualified for 10% off the total bill (which was rounded up so we ended up saving nearly 18%). Very good value for money - a 3 course meal for 2 with a bottle of wine for only around £62!
I felt that the breakfasts were the weakest part of the stay as they weren't great although there was lots of choice and the possibility to pay extra for a cooked breakfast.
We would definitely stay here again.
Lovely Hotel in Beautiful Florence

Just returned from a fabulous long weekend break. Lovely Hotel in nice location just around the corner from San Marco Piazza and the David, and only a 5-10 minute walk to the main centre the Duomo. Lovely view from the dome overlooking all of Florence, lots of stairs to climb, I believe 463 but well worth the view.
The hotel a definite 4*plus, lovely decor, staff and food. After reading other comments about the Hotel’s location we were apprehensive about our trip, but need not have worried as the location was excellent. There are a few other Restaurants around the side Streets and many Café’ Ice Cream Parlours for drinks and snacks.
To see all the sights and feel the ambience you have to walk everywhere, and all attractions are within reach. We also walked from the Hotel across the river to Piazza Michelangelo, it did take around
30 – 45 minutes, this was well worth the view, (plenty of Cafes on the way if you need to replenish).
We took the train to Pisa which is another must to visit.
Overall we had an excellent stay in Florence and would certainly stay at the Athenaeum if we return.

stayed here for 3 nights.room 416 at the rear of hotel very quiet only 3 rooms in this part of 4th floor.
about 15 mins walk to centre, road well lit.buses to centre and station just 50 yards from hotel.
as our flight was not until late afternoon they let us have a extra hour on check out and stored our bags so we could go and have a leisurely lunch.only one thing missing for us no tea or coffee in room but otherwise a very nice hotel.

The Capponi Covoni Palace is the head office of Tuscan Region Council, and is situated in Via Cavour 2/4. You can help you finding the area using Google Map, insert 'Via Camillo Cavour, Firenze' on the searching form. Anyway, Piazza della Signoria and the old Florence city centre are walking distance.
The Hotel Athenaeum is a very modern, pleasant place where to stay nearby:
