Gelato!
by m-joy
There are many gelateries in Florence, some have very creamy ice, some have hundreds of flavours, some are just for tourists. The most famous one is the Vivoli, Via Isola delle Stinche. Very delicious as well is the Frullatoria's ice-cream, Via dei Bardi.

if you fancy a little respite from the bustling streets of florence, head for the the parco delle cascine near the piazza vittorio veneto, you'll find the most fantastic open-air swimming pool. great for a dip and a people-watch....it costs to get in (don't forget to shove your swimmers+ a little sarong into your bag..) but worth every centimo....+ then when you feel refreshed+energised, jump on the no17 bus back into the centre (and the bus driver didn't even make us pay but not sure if that's normal or not....
feels a million miles away from the florence of the guide books.
Florence Market

I'm not one for shopping, but the market place in Florence is very nice and you can really find good stuff and not just crap. Especially leather goods. I bought a lamb skin leather jacket that was done in a European cut, for $125. It would easily sell for twice that in America. No joke. It is at least worth a look in my opinion.

Almost the whole time we were in Florence we walked to places we wanted to see. It's the best way to come across unexpected sights. :)
We used the buses a couple of times too and they were easy to use.
