Hy,
A couple of my favorites in Florence, near San Lorenzo:
Fiaschetteria-Trattoria Mario
Via Rosina, 2Rosso
Behind Mercato di San Lorenzo in the Piazza Mercato Centrale
Tel: 055-218-550
Open for lunch only but very cheap. It's difficult you spend more than 20€ (without wines). Try the Zuppa di Verdura con crostini, the true Fiorentina and the daily specials.
Pepó
Via Rosina, 4-6R
Behind Mercato di San Lorenzo in the Piazza Mercato Centrale
Tel: 055-283-259

I GHIBELLINI
Piazza S.P. Maggiore 8/9/10- Firenze
Tel 055 214424
In center, 5 minutes walk from the cathedral, I believe is difficult to eat well spending less. With the wine of the house, a first and a second of dishes of the Tuscan cuisine, you can spend under 25€
Hope this helps you and BUON APPETITO!!!
Ciao, Marco

Io consiglierei l'osteria La Vinaina, in via dell'Agnolo - vicino a Piazza Santa Croce.

Ciao!

Travel Tips for Florence
I was in Florence for 2 weeeks...
by Svitata
I was in Florence for 2 weeeks in 1996 to study Italian. I know, it's too short a time to master anything, let alone study the language! But it's all I've got for my vacation. Although the time was short, I enjoyed myself tremendously in those 2 weeks, soaking in the Firenze sunshine and the L'Arno breeze. My fondest memory is the morning walks from my apartment to my school in Piazza Santo Spirito. It's across the Arno river and every morning, I'll have to cross the bridge and bask in the warm morning sun before reaching my school. It's only a 10 minute walk but it's one of the best part of the day.
Easter in Florence
by MarvintheMartian
I was lucky enough to visit Florence during the Easter period.
This picture was taken on Good Friday quite late. The procession came from the Mercato Centrale area and ended at the San Lorenzo.
Inside the churches are beautifully decorated with flowers - very family and church orientated.
Officina Profumo Farmaceutica di Santa maria Novel
by fgfi
Just around the corner of the beautiful church of Santa Maria Novella you can find one of the oldest apothecary in the world. Wonderful rooms with frescoes, period furniture and antiques where you can buy a number of products made from old recipes formulated by the Domenican Monks. It was founded in 1612.
Close to all the sights
by Henrik_rrb
Florence has a lot to offer for everyone, with a lot of sights, great nightlife and fantastic restaurants. The best way to explore all this it to walk around by foot. You'll be able to walk through the whole central parts of the city within 40-60 minutes, and it's not hard at all to find the right places.
Start from the station Santa Maria Novella. From there you have 600 meters to go to Il Duomo. After having visited that you can take left, and you'll after just a few hundred meters be at the huge market place, Mercato Centrale, where you can buy about anything, but most of all clothes and souvenirs. Also around the market there are some very nice shops.
When you're done with the shopping, and maybe also a quick lunch at ZaZa, you head back to Il Duomo. From there you can either walk straight forward, and you'll soon be at Santa Croce. Or to the right, where you'll find yourself in front of Ponte Vecchio after about 10 minutes walk. But only after passing by Palazzo Vecchio and Piazza Signoria before that.
A walk on the side of the river Arno is always nice, even if the pavement is a bit too small for all the people who's passing by. During the evening you'll be able to see the sun go down over the river/houses, depending what time of the year you're there.
Then just follow the river back, and after about 20 minutes you'll be back at the Santa Maria Novella. Maybe 40 minutes if you stop by somewhere for a beer.
A great day in Florence, and also very cheap! Plus your condition will for sure get better! :)
Eating in Florence
by alcalacurro
Eating in Florence and in all Italy is ok. I want recommend you a chesse pizza with oregano and thyme I ate there and I liked it really much. Usually pizzas there are sent by its weight but is important not eating in turistic places situated in turistic streets because are more expensive and worse. Search typical places but in no much walked streets where you can see many people there, is one of the best forms in order to asegurate a restaurant is quite good.
