Hi!
I am looking to rent a reasonable apartment, or room in a guest house, in Florence from Oct. 9-13. If anyone has anything available please let me know as I would be very interested.
Thanks!
Brad

We stayed in this wonderful furnished apartment overlooking Piazza S. Croce. Email florenceholidays@gmail.com. What we liked the best was the ease of booking, the personable service and defintely the well stocked kitchen. They even gave us a cell phone (without sim card of course) to use while we were in Florence. They had three apartments and we stayed in the yellow one which was absolutely charming and reasonable. We had a great stay and hope you have the same.
Travel Tips for Florence
Palazzo Vecchio
by MATIM
Begun in 1294 as a palace fortress for the resicenceof the Prior
Palazzo Vecchio begun in 1294 as a palace fortress for the residence of the Priors, Arnolfo di Cambio conceived of the building as a large block crowned by crenulations.
The characteristic feature is the powerful thrust of the tower which rises up above the palace and which echoes the terminal part..
It was a pitty the palace was in the scaffolding
Packing List

There are a lot of cobblestone streets so good walking shoes are a must. Also, if you go in the fall, bring an umbrella! I'm serious. It rains ALL THE TIME! I don't think we had but maybe 1/2 a sunny day out of 5 or 6! I personally didn't mind but I did however have an umbrella. They sell them too of course if you forget but it's better to have one. The price drastically goes up once the rain starts to fall!
Go a little further you can get it cheaper!
by beesaj about Souvenirs
Along the street you have all sorts of goodies you can bring home. But be wary as some of these items are overpriced. Talk the guy selling you items down if they won't move the price go to another shop, they will. It is becoming more of a problem of illegal immigration and they will sell you items cheap also, but if you buy the fake Gucci bag you may not be able to get it through certain airports as they check for these things. Paintings, Pictures, Crystal, WINE! I would say bring at the very least 100Euro just to buy your self "keepsakes"
To Florence by train
by HORSCHECK
Florence is well served by the trains from all major cities of Italy. The trains are relatively decent and tickets are cheap. For example: A single trip to Pisa takes about one hour and costs less than 5 EURO.
The busy station Santa Maria Novella is located at the north western end of the touristic centre and can be reached on foot from the Duomo in 15 mins.
Good food + good service = great meal!
by Jefie about Trattoria Pizzeria Nerone
Trattoria Pizzeria Nerone was located just a short walk down the street from our hotel and on our first night in Florence, some customers who were just coming out of the restaurant told us to check it out because they had loved their meal. We went a couple nights later and we were not disappointed! We were initially taken to a table near the back of the restaurant, but when we spotted the small inner courtyard we asked to be seated outside. Our waiter was very attentive, perhaps more American than European in his manners (maybe that's why there was a note on the menu saying "tips are welcome"?!). The restaurant's speciality is pizza, which they bake in a wood oven that you can see as you walk in. Sylvain tried one and it was great, one of the best we had during our trip. I felt more like eating pasta that night so I ordered the spaghetti al pomorodo and both the pasta and the sauce were fresh and delicious. And the best part is that of all the restaurants we tried in Florence, this was by far the cheapest!
