An escape at the end of the day

This hotel has very helpful staff (speak English and other languages), decent bar and a nice lobby for sitting or visiting, nice modern rooms, large bathrooms (extra charge for the ones overlooking the river), a good western breakfast buffett, and a great location. Yes, its cost is a little above the average (you do have to consider you are in the Porto Vecchio area of Florence), but unless you are trying to travel on the cheap, the convenience and atmosphere at the end of the day is worth it. It is situated right on the Arno river in Porto Vecchio. To orient you, it is - 2 minute walk along the river to the Porto Vecchio bridge with its gold merchants. The following are within 3 minute walks - the Uffizi Museum, the Piazza della Signoria (great outdoor restaurants). The Piazza de al Republica is about 4 minutes. The Duomo area is about 8 minutes. The name and designer brand shopping store area is 3 to 5 minute walk.

Evening walks along the river are wonderful, even very late as there are always many people around to keep it safe.
I am a business traveler, so my budget is a bit more generous.

Unique Quality: Evening walks along the river are wonderful, even very late as there are always many people around to keep it safe. 24 hour staff in lobby, easy Taxi access (some places in central Florence do not allow vehicles, so you end up walking and dragging your suitcases for blocks).

Breakfast is served in the 2nd floor dining room. Has a professionally set buffett, scrambled eggs, and other egg dishes, English sausage, bacon, fresh fruit (yes, grab a banana, apple or orange for later in the day), various styles of coffee and tea, juices, pastries, toast and more.

Right by the river

I've had relatives stay here. Very satisfied, and trust me... they are spoiled and hard to satisfy.

Unique Quality: Great location, near Ponte Vecchio.

More about Berchielli

Well-cared for @ Hotel Berchielli

by TripAdvisor Member Duh-h-h

The staff was attentive to our every need. Breakfasts were literally "too much". The foods served at the breakfast buffet were of high quality, and fresh. If designed to be hot, the food was served hot, vice-versa for chilled.
Don't miss Giovanni at the bar-a fine, helpful, man with an excellent command of English and a sparkling wit. Firenze would not have been the same without him.

Wonderful Berchielli!

by TripAdvisor Member Booklover58

We just returned from 3 weeks in Italy of which 5 nights were spent at the Hotel Berchielli. Our room was luxurious....huge…actually larger than I might have ever imagined and a small balcony overlooking the River Arno. Both the bedroom and the bathroom were extremely comfortable and immaculate. The desk staff was accommodating in all ways: recommendations of places to eat, reservations, directions. I would highly recommend this hotel. The location was central, walking distance to all the sites and the availability of free internet service in the lobby was appreciated.

Great Hotel!

This place is great! Awesome location, friendly staff, clean rooms, and reasonable prices. Florence is a fun city, full of energy, great shopping, and even better food. I would stay at the Berchielli again!

Wonderful!!

WE were at the Berchielli for a week, lovely place! Good clean rooms, breakfasts were more than ample and served well.
However, while the staff as a whole was great, there was a man on the desk (name forgotten) that was condescending and a bit arrogant. We felt as though we shouldn't be asking ANY questions....
We would still recommend this hotel!

Hotel location excellent

Stayed at Berchielli for 11 nights. Hotel location excellent for all the sights. Double room at front with terrific views of the Ponto Vecchio and Arno. Bathroom on our particular room was small. Buffet breakfast excellent with staff being very attentive. Barbara on the desk was extremely helpful. If you leave the Hotel by the door which leads onto Apostoli you find Il Boccale Ristorante which is a small eatery which is popular with locals and tourists and serves excellent food at very reasonable prices. The hotel was undergoing some refurbishment and there was no access to the roof garden because of work on the 4th floor.

Not as good as everyone makes out!

I have just got back from a stay in Florence which was booked for my finace's birthday. We were booked into the Berchielli. When we arrived we were shown to a double room which, in any other hotel would have been a single. The room was dark, the window looked onto another building which I reckon I could have touched if I had streached out the far enough. There was no sign of any river or the Ponte del Vecchio. I complained and we got moved to a tiwn room - hardly condusive to a romantic weekend. This room was of a better size but the decor was not 4* standard and the bathrooms were from the early '80s/late '70s. In my opinion this is a medium 3* hotel with 4* prices. The lobby is nice but the rooms do not match that. I saw two rooms and niether of them had a veiw at all - they faced walls. I saw no evidence to suggest that it overlooks the river - the entrance is not on the same street as the river, it is on a street in behind.

Genreally speaking hotels in Florence seem to spend most of their cash on the lobby. I would always advise asking to see a room before sealing the deal. We moved to the Ravoli which was fantastic. Staff went out of their way to help us - the rooms were of a decent size, and we over looked a courtyard with a jacuzzi in it. The Berchielli may be regarded as being right in the middle of town but as long as you are central there is little advantage to be gained by its position. It may be near the Ponte del Vecchio but its no near the Acadamia (for 'David'). There are a great deal of hetels closer to the the Duma that I am sure must be better than this one and comparable in price.

Obvioulsy some people have gone to this hotel and been delighted, which is great, but, in my opinion, be warned - see your room first and if you're not sure don't book this place - you may not get the view you expect (and if you don't make sure you ask for an alternative room) and there are others that are just as central. Florence has a great deal of better hotels - I would advise people to use them.

We spent 4 nights here from 1st June 2004. The lobby is very nice and might warrant the four stars. The rooms themselves were definetly of a 3 star standard, with extremely tiny bathrooms- really really cramped. I really think we had one of the smallest rooms in the hotel, as we could see rooms all around us with balconies and verandas. We had to ask for extra blankets as the air conditioning control did not seem to work. We did consider asking to move rooms, but we knew they were booked up, and as we only showered and spent so little time in the room, we let it slide. The reason this hotel can be classed as a 4 star and will get a good review, is the location.
You can see the Ponte Vecchio from all angles and are literally seconds away from all the action. You can pop back to the hotel to drop off shopping, or just to freshen up. This is why the Berchielli consistantly gets good reviews on tripadvisor. The breakfasts were extremly good, with a choice of hat & cold fare, and very good coffee.
When you are in a city like Florence, time is of the essence, and the pure convenience of this hotel makes it so popular- we would definetely stay here again when visiting Florence.
