More about Best Western Hotel Laurus
Lovely hotel, great location, reasonably priced.
by TripAdvisor Member ClaireMarie
I stayed at the Hotel Laurus on the 31st August. I booked the hotel after reading the reviews on tripadvisor.
What a lovely hotel! The rooms were large, modern and clean. All are eqipped with Satellite television, minibar and safe. The bathrooms are roomy and equipped with bath/shower, bidet etc. The shower was excellent. Most impressive of all were the complimentary slippers, toothbrush etc. The hotel provided everything you could conceiveably need.
Having spent the previous 4 days in Rome staying in a fairly basic hotel (which cost the same as the Laurus) I was seriously impressed with the quality of the Laurus. Great value for money.
Breakfast was very good, wide range of food and wonderful roof terrace.
The location was ideal - very central, near to the station and all the main tourist sights.
The only slight negative was the fairly cool welcome we received from the bearded receptionist - he was very reserved to say the least. However, that said, all of the other staff were friendly and helpful.
Re room rates, we booked the hotel directy through the Best Western website as we couldn't find a better deal. The price was excellent - 115 Euro for a Kingsize room with city views.
I would definitely stay in this hotel again!
Great Location

My wife and I stayed at the Laurus for a couple of nights as a birthday treat for her.The location was fantastic. Easy walking distance of the station and Il Duomo and all the other attractions. The room was very clean and very well appointed. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly - particularly Claudio on the rooftop bar who was very keen to show off his cocktail-making skills. We were only too happy to be guinea pigs for him!
I have to agree with the previous reviewer about the beds being too hard. A minor gripe and it didn't spoil our enjoyment. Despite being so centrally located we were not at all bothered by traffic noise - I think due to the excellent double glazing the room had.
Breakfast was basic but being able to eat on the rooftop terrace was fantastic. I would recommend this hotel to anyone!
Location plus more

This Hotel is great value; air conditioned rooms, big bathrooms and comfortable beds and above very clean. A real effort from all the staff to make your stay pleasant, breakfast should not be missed from the roof terrace and if you’re looking for a night cap the terrace turns into a Bar open till late. It may be a little more expenses than some, but you don’t need taxi’s your right in the centre for the best Restaurants, cafes, Designer shopping and of course sights
Lauds for Laurus

My family was thrilled to walk into this hotel...after a long, hot journey by train, we were greeted by the smiling staff and a gloriously air-conditioned lobby! Our room was perfect, our son had his own private side with a comfortable sofa/sleeper. My husband had internet, and I had a clean, modern room with a generously sized bath. We had a thermostat, and the air conditioning level was a welcome relief! As mentioned, the breakfast room overlooks the Duomo, and the food was above average. We got a terrific deal on Venere, and would stay at the Laurus again.
Fantastic Location

I've been meaning to write a review on this hotel since staying there with a friend in July. The hotel is in a fantastic location just up the road from the fabulous Duomo. The room we had was beautifully decorated, immaculately clean and very comfortable. The bathroom was very contemporary with a huge basin, shower over the bath, wc and bidet. The rooms are air conditioned which is essential as temperatures in July were in the high 90's.
The best thing about the hotel has to be the upstairs terrace, in the morning you can eat breakfast in the sun overlooking the Duomo and later after a hard day sightseeing you can relax up there with a cool drink and complimentary nibbles, perfect!
I would highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay there again if I return to Florence.

We have stayed at Hotel Mario's on a few occasions and have always been happy with the rooms and location. It is only a few blocks from the train station and is located on a quite street.

If you get stuck, there's a hotel booking office at the station. They have always taken care of me on the spot.

I used the booking office in Rome before. It was a pleasant surprise. It really works good. Kind of like Priceline, hotels with opening have vouchers that they issue at the booking office. It might be worth a try. Also you can check out hotels on Expedia.com and have them placed on the map. That will get you in the area you want.

We went to the Best Western site and found a hotel Laurus - walking distance
everywhere ... it was OK, not bad, just OK but very well situated -we walked right from the station (Santa Maria Novella) to the hotel.

We bought a Florence Knopf guide from Barnes and Noble and were able to get around everywhere - these are small books with small map sections - we liked these so much we've been getting them whenever they're available for other locations.
The guide had a link to an old pharmacy when Queen Elizabeth actually shops ...
http://www.designboom.com/eng/trend/santamn_sales.html ... this is a very cool place - and if you buy anything, the products are great.
