Firenze in November
by Igraine
It was awfully cold, windy and rainy. All this didn't stop me from enjoying the sights. Climbing the Duomo, standing on top and looking around the entire city and it surroundings was a great thing to do.
Climbing up is hard work but amazing, first you get till the rim of the big dome, after going up some very very windy stairs. Next you go to the other side of the dome, sadly enough not being able to make pictures due to the plastic screen. Then you go between the dome inner and outer wall up to the top. So you walk a bit lopsided. But the view is so rewarding!
hug the swine
by tompt
At the south side of the Mercado Nuovo is this Swine. I tis a 17th century copy of the original roman marble one, that can be seen in the Uffuzi. Hug it and you will be back in Florence, at least that is what they say.
Coins collect in the bassin under the swine are collected and spend on charity.
Look up!
by leics
In all cities it pays to look up. It's amazing what you can see..............even on the Ponte Vecchio, looking above the heads of the crowd shows just how old and rebuilt and rebuilt the bridge is (see other photo).
I was amazed to see real trees growing from a roof. Still am, actually....amazed the roof can bear the weight of the necessary soil. It's on Via Montebello.

The Only Gelateria You Need to Go To!
by Hopkid about Vivoli
Florence is bursting with places to buy gelato, the Italian version of ice cream. The best is Vivoli, not far from the Piazza Santa Croce. It also opens early in the morning in case you have an urge for gelato for breakfast (as we did the day we flew home). Lots of great flavors to choose from. If you can't decide ask them to mix two flavors into a single cup.
