Sculpture in the Boboli Gardens
by littlesam1
As I stated in the previous tip the Boboli Gardens are huge and have a very steep incline. When you first enter the gardens and climb the first set of steps it appears you have reached the top of the gardens. At the top of the steps is this beautiful statue. However you are not at the top of the gardens yet. Beyond this there is another steep hill and lots of climbing to do. But it is worth the climb. The gardens are exceptional.
Pisa
by bpwillet
Pisa was the richest city in the western Mediterranean. Florence normally used the port of Pisa for its commerce with overseas countries, their relationship was one of collaboration and mutual aid. It has a rich history and is set beautifully off the Arno river. It has more to offer than just the "Leaning Tower" although that is all I was primarily able to see. It is also very easy to get to and a perfect day trip from Florence. If you use RyanAir you will land here (unless there is fog) and the train will take you right into Florence or wherever your final destination may be.
Outlets to the south of florence
by tan1415 about The mall, trussardi,The groove and D&G
Hi all,
As mentioned on the other post. Florence outlets can be seperated in two parts. Sounth and north of florence.
This post is about the southern part. From florence u take the autostrada towards rome. You leave the highway at the regello or Montevarchi exits. After leaving teh highway you are still 15minutes away to the malls.
This is the more traditional and old school outlets. Basically centered around the Prada factory store at Montevarchi and the outletscenters around Regello.
These malls are smallish and speciaises in the high end brands.
If your tastes run to high fashion or you want to grab some bargains these places cant be missed. These places dont only cater to torusits..matter of fact you will notice alot of italians doing there shopping here.
If you have the time i suggest the following itinerary. From Florence head first to Regello outlets.
Here you will find the mall. Here alot of the high fashion brands are situated close to each other. Check the link to see what brands you can find here.
After you finished here you can visit the Groove. Here you will find regular italian brands.Close by is the D&G outlet. Pretty big outlet with everything D&G.
Close by also is Trussardi outlet. very nice with a lot of quality leathergoods thats surprisingly affordable.
After the outlets you can head to Montevarchi and visit Space prada outlet. After this I think you have enough time to go back to regello and than home to flroence.
PS dont forget to take the time to grab something to eat. Anything of the italian fashion houses are great buy.
I noticed that foreign brands aren't that great dealwise.
You will be shocked how they display there items. Forget what you know of regular stores.
Some items you think is expensive...but when you look at the price and after the extra price slashed they are so cheap.
Or you find a mountain of stuff or jumbled together. You think its a garage sale. When you look ai it you will first notice the the high fashion brand and when you at price its no garage sale price.
Anyway i think its fun because you can always find a great bargain.
Some tips:
1) The more you know about these fashion stuff ,the better bargains you will find.
2) Carefull of the "everything" is so cheap trap. They are still Prada, Armani,Tods etc. A tods boots for 100€ is a great bargain...but its still 100€.
3) Carefull of the "not cheap enough" trap. everything is here so cheap...you get blinded by the over the top bargains and miss out on the less extravagant bargains.
Remember to most of us...the prices here are pretty unreal compared tow hat we pay outside of italy. So if you see something you really like..dont hesitate.
4)Keep in mind that you have to fly all the stuff out. :)
Anyway I have fallen to all the above mentioned trap one time of another so hpe these tips are usefull. During the regular italian sales the outlet prices are sleashed even further.
Otherwise regular outlet prices are 30/40% of regular italian prices.
Probably the best way to get...
by Deborah_Bagg
Probably the best way to get into Florence (or any Italian city for that matter) is by train. Most trains are very comfortable, and centrally located. They are not too expensive, and it gives you a chance to catch up on all those postcards you've been meaning to write.
In the city, there is no reason to travel by car or bus. Most things worth seeing are within walking distance of the train station and hotels. Driving in the city of Florence is maddening at best, and it could concievably take someone 25 minutes to get to a hotel not 2 blocks away due to one way streets and nightmarish traffic. When planning an itinerary, group what you want to see by location to prevent yourself from walking grand distances, and plan lots of gelato or coffee breaks in between.
Ristorante Cafaggi
by Murphtique about Ristorante Cafaggi
Ristorante Cafaggi was a little high-priced, but
worth it. The cheese & spinach filled ravioli were
very good too and their sauce was light and
delicious. The staff could speak a good amount
of English and patiently helped us understand the menu
and order our meal. Florentine grilled T-boned steak & manicotti
