Florence hotel

by traffordy

Hello to everyone in the Florence forum

Please could anyone recommend a decent hotel in Florence (that is fairly close to the train station), as there are just so many to choose from.

I am looking to spend around E90 per night which will hopefully include a large breakfast (ie, some hot food - eggs, bacon, sausages etc as well as the usual croissants, pastries, cereals etc, as we tend to fill up at breakfast and skip lunch so it is quite an important criteria).

Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Sarah

The type of hot breakfast you describe is unusual in Italian (and European) hotels, and especially so in hotels at the budget end of the market (for obvious reasons). You are most likely to find such breakfasts in large chain-type hotels.

www.venere.com is the best site, imo, for finding Italian hotels. It is reliable, has good mapping and honest guest reviews.

I have enjoyed my stays at the Hotel Delle Camellie (booked through venere,in a quiet position about 5 minutes walk from the station)... but they don't provide the type of breakfast you want. http://www.hoteldellecamelie.it/

I can't think of any hotel I've ever stayed in in Italy that has provided the sort of breakfast you're looking for - it's just not the Italian way - and the best you can expect on the sort of budget you're working on is the norm of breads, spreads, yoghurt, fruit, ham, cheese and salami.

In my experience, one Can get such a breakfast in Some European hotels, but it is Always a la carte. For example, I was in Paris in February this year, and they did offer an excellent hot breakfast -- for 15 Euro.

It's all on one place You can walk to see most important places in Florence: the Dome, Piazza Signoria and Uffizi Gallery, Pinte Vecchio. But You must see great panorama view from Piazzale Michelangelo not far from city and surrounding monasteries of Toscana and wineyards, of cource producing world famous Toscana Classic red wine. It was great night life on piazza della Republica.

the locks of Ponte Vecchio

by sphynxxs

the shopkeepers of Ponte Vecchio keep the locks to their stalls all chained to some lantern at the bridge. seems like they are not too trusting.... I only wonder how each of them finds the right lock again, given the vast amount!

Most visitors to Florence stay on the North side of the Arno where the train station/Duomo/Uffizi is. Try crossing the Arno at Ponte alla Carraia or Ponte S. Trinita and walk around San Spirito and San Frediano. Traditional Florentine neighborhoods with great trattorias to eat in. Don't miss the Giardino di Boboli (Boboli Gardens) and the Palazzo Pitti (Pitti Palace) for beautiful scenery and nice views of Florence.

The best pub in Firenze

by Azhut about THE WILLIAMS

This pub is not only a pub but a meeting point where you can eat, drink and relax after a stressing tour of Florence! I always go there with my friends when I need a good atmosphere and a piece of cake! yes, they have deliciuos chocolate cake! If you like beers you can taste many of them from England in the typical "half pint" like "Caffrey's Irish Ale", la "Bass" end the "Tennent's Super".

Open from 6 p.m. No elegant dress please.)).

BEST GELATO IN FLORENCE

by travelingdanna about Perche No! (!!!)

So, there is all this talk about Vivoli being the best gelato in the world and stuff. All I can say is that while their gelato is pretty delicious, their service is pretty awful, you always feel like a stupid tourist, and I've had gelato just as good in several other places.

But... PERCHE NO! is special. The gelato is so smooth, the perfect consistency, it melts in your mouth and leaves you wanting more no matter how much you've had. And it is so flavorful, there is not one flavor they do wrong (unless it's a flavor you already know you can't stand).
aside from the amazing gelato, the people who work there are probably the most friendly florentine food service people I met all four months I was there... they put up with so much, it's incredible that they manage to stay so laid back.
one last thing - over several visits to Perche No in spring 2005, I noticed that they were always playing quality music in the store too! pink floyd, etc. (oh, and there's place to sit down and eat your gelato, unheard of at most gelaterie)
well, if you've read all this you must be craving gelato like I am... so if you're actually IN firenze, just go to perche no! now! Some of the BEST flavors are COFFEE CRUNCH... mmmm... PISTACCHIO.. wow... and my favorite of all, NOCCIOLA - (hazelnut?). they also have interesting ones like orange-chocolate, merengue, and green tea (bizarre but interesting).
