Street Performers...or Beggars ?
by coceng
...I have been to Europe a few times now & always love watching all these Street Performers...or should we call them Beggars ?..Sorry, I don't mean that in a bad way...because what they do is also a part of living by giving entertainment to passers-by...
Here are 2 guys...one is painted white & the other painted gold...
..but they are not that good in their performance because they don't look like statues...but normal human beings looking for some fun & err, easy money....
Lock up the love
by sirgaw
The Italians are a passionate lot. If they're not making war on themselves (including government) then they're probably eating, then after that's all over there are the affairs of the heart.
Don't know where the tradition started and don't even know if it was in Italy, but certainly the Italians have embraced the idea - so much so that the local authorities have made it illegal to clamp padlocks to bridges in Florence.
The idea is a loving couple will attach a padlock to the railing of a bridge - in this case the famous Ponte Vecchio that spans the Arno River - and throw away the key. The padlock - like the loving couple - will never part. Sadly the authorities remove the padlocks with large bolt cutters - the spoil sports!!!!!!!
The Oltarno - across the river...
by jmbredeck
The Oltarno - across the river in and around the neighborhood of Santo Spirito. Inside - if you can catch it open - is an impressive Renaissance sacred interior by Brunelleschi. Compare it to San Lorenzo (also free) or pay to see the Pazzi Chapel and the Medici Chapel for the full effect.
Clubbing
by fgfi about Doris
At Doris you have 4 different rooms, with different music and different bars. It is a hot spot for clubbing since last year. There is a chill-out zone on the lower ground with leather sofas and soft lighting and upstairs there is a total black room much more "trasgressive". Best night is Thursday night.
Open from 11pm to 4 am
Closed on Sundays Smart.
Great Pizza
by xristinaki about Don't remember, but right beside our hotel
We were starving after the long train ride from Sorrento....so after checking in to our hotel (next to the trainstation) we immediately looked for fooooood...we didn't have to look to far..just a few stores down our hotel, there was a pizzaria. We got three types. I love Italy because they are very clever! they weigh the pizza, so if you want a light snack, just let them know to cut it small, or a huge piece if you're famished (as we did). They also have the same pizza, for example a mushroom pizza, one with cheese and another without....very clever! The blueberry pie was aslo yummy. We ate for 5 euros each...including drinks.
