If it is your first time in florence, I would suggest just to wander in the heart of the city. If the weather will be not fine (and it could be) you can choose a lot of stop along your way. it depends on your interest.

There is so much to see in Florence! It would help to know your interests. I recommend to see the Duomo, Michalangelo's statue of David, and the church Sant Croce (there are many important Italian people that are encrypted there) If you like art, go to the Ufizi museum (you can get tickets ahead of time instead of waiting in line to get in).

I agree with Marco. For me before I ever visit any monuments, galleries, museums, etc., I alway like to wander the city. Florence is a museum unto itself. Also you get a slice of the life of the people who live there if you wander out of the main tourist areas, perhaps across the bridge over to Piazza Santo Spirito. Also take a coffee in a bar, or sit a Gilli in Piazza della Republica for an aperitivo. Browse through the markets.

Too bad you don't really have enough time to read any of the books that I recommend on my Florence page. Knowing the history makes all the difference in the world.

You will love it and fortunately it isn't high tourist season.

If you are looking for a really fun and elaborate dinner (especially if you have a group of friends with you), I would recommend:
La Certosa, which is located in the Tuscan Hills. I went there with my Contiki Tour (where we also met up with other Contiki Tours) and it was a BLAST! The antipasta buffet was amazing, some of the best food I had during my tour through Europe! The entertainment was fun, a mixture of different singing and dancing. Imagine a huge Italian Wedding party! (Thats what it felt like). It was a beautiful place and I had so much fun with my group!

Travel Tips for Florence

Santa Croce Sculpture

by littlesam1

This sculpture and many others can be found at the cloisters in Santa Croce. Also at Santa Croce is the world famous leather school. I do not have good notes about this piece of sculpture and I have tried researching on the internet unsuccessfully. If anyone knows any information about the statue I would be glad to note your comments in this tip.

Oltarno (ctd.)

by alloquisha

As mentioned above in Must See Sights, the Oltarno is a very peaceful place to get away from the bustle. Be sure when you are walking around to pay attention to the numerous courtyards and their entrances - some have lovely ironwork gates.

Great food shopping

by Sonador3 about Mercato Centrale

This is just one of the many different gourmet shops located in the ground floor of the Mercato Centrale near the San Lorenzo Market. I always come here before going home to pick up some olive oil and a bottle of balsalmic vinegar. Hundreds of types of meats and cheeses. Different types of Olive Oil and Vinegars. Truffle Oil. "Food Souviners" Tourist prices, but still less than back home.

WALK around Florence!

by Laura_Mexico

The best way to move around Florence is walking. The town is so small and its streets are so nice that you don't need the public transportation system (buses) to move around. Taxis are expensive (so I was told) and they're not necessary unless you are in a rush, are staying in a hotel very far away from downtown (unlikely, though) or have to carry a ton of luggage. So it's not worth it and all my touring around Florence was done by foot. Everything is very close there and you don't really need to ride a bus or a cab to get around the town.

Indian Style

by Azhut about ASHOKA

Elegant and simple at the same time. Typical Indian music, cleaning room with air conditioning. Romantic atmosphere and wonderful and good dishes to eat. Typical Tandoori and Mughiai cookin. I dont' remember the Indian name of my favourite dish but it's made of meat-balls and legumes sauce, delicious!!! Indian typical dishes are made of many different kinds of meat, u have only to choose!
