Re: Proposal

hmmm... not really a restaurant, but the Irish (yes) Pub in Firesole at sunset out on the deck sounds like what you're looking for.

How romantic! Drop back and let us know that she said yes!!

Yes, Fiesole! There's a restaurant (I think it's also a winery) that serves all sorts of Tuscan wine. I can't remember the name, but it sits on the hillside looking over Firenze. That's a romantic place, especially during sunset.

One lucky woman, your girlfriend.

The most panoramic restaurant in Fiesole is probably Le Lance. Address: Via Mantellini 2/b, Fiesole (FI), Tel. & Fax (+39) 055 599 595, website www.lelance.it

The website is in Italian only, but you will find pictures that give you an idea of the place.

Travel Tips for Florence

The Duomo

by MATIM

Cathedral of Florence, dedicated to Santa Maria del Fiore, is the fruit of the commitment of a large number of artiste who worked on it over a period of centuries.
First time the church had been built in the 4th and 5th century on the ruins of a Roman domus.
At the Byzanitine wars the church was destroyed and then rebuilt between the 8th and 9th century.

The Palazzo Vecchio's enormous...

by PartyRambo

The Palazzo Vecchio's enormous Salone dei Cinquento, built at the end of the 15th century as the Great Republic assembly hall, had daVinci and Michelangelo commissioned to work on opposite walls - Leonardo's test work fell flat, and Michelangelo got called out to Rome by the Pope before he got any of plans off the paper and onto the canvas, so a couple of other artists had to fill in. Michelangelo's Victory, facing the entrance door (the bottom-right statue on the right side of the photo) was given to the Medicis by Michelangelo's nephew.

**It was in this hall that Hannibal Lecter spent much of his time in the movie 'Hannibal'.**

Palazzo di Bianca Cappello

by Tijavi

One of the more interesting buildings in the Oltrarno is the Palazzo di Bianca Cappello - on two fronts: (a) it is covered in beautiful and ornate 16th century graffito; and (b) it is said to be the place where Grand Duke Francesco I sought refuge when matters of the state become stressful - to recharge his batteries in the company of his mistress.

Nighttime by the Duomo

by kenadams about Astor caffý ( bar )

Times change! This used to be a fine bar, with a small restaurant section that was actually quite good.
Now it's just a bar.
There are dancers at the counter sometimes, it is very animated and can be fun if you want a disco type experience without having to pay cover charges.
Downs: 1) mostly populated, even overcrowded, by tourists and Americans studying in Florence. 2) Full of drugdealers. No specific dress code.

Papa al pomodoro and gnocchi..out of the world!

by salvamea4545 about Ristorante Buca Mario

If what you are looking is the Florence ambience…don’t go any further! Lovely place, the decoration will take you right into the Tuscany area. Fantastic wine…if you don’t know about wines, let the waitress “match” your food with the proper wine. I had gnocchi and it was fabulous! A friend of mine recommended me to try PAPA AL POMODORO! Oh wow!!! You will love it!. The service is impeccable and since my hotel was far from Florence, the restaurant was conveniently located few minutes from Stazione Santa Maria Novella.
