Piazzale Michelangelo.
by Maurizioago
Piazzale Michelangelo is a very large square laid out in 1865. It is situated on a hill on the south bank of the Arno river.
From there you can enjoy a breathtaking view of Florence. You can spot the main sights of the town and also some remnants of the ancient walls.
You can go to Piazzale Michelangelo by bus (take n. 13 outside the main train station) or by foot.

Sitting in a restaurant that has a table cloth will always cost you more than sitting somehwhere where there is no table cloth, and drinking yur cafe latte standing at the bar will always be cheaper than taking up a seat. When you want to get something quick to eat yet still enjoy some good pasta, try one of the self-service places like the one in the photo. his one had some good pastas though the pizza could have been better. it is located not far from the Piazza San Marco, at Via Cavour 48-50.

Train travel in Italy is easy, fast and convenient
by GuitarStan
Took train from Rome Termini stazione to Florence S.Maria Novella station. When you purchase tickets either through a teller or a machine be sure what station you want to go to. Most cities have more than 1 station, you may get off at the wrong one! We bought most of our tickets using the ticket machine, they have several language options so their is no language barrier to overcome. The tellers do speak quite good english though, if you have several stations to go through or a specific need for a train, the tellers may be a better choice. Not all the machines accept cash/euro. Look for the right one, some only take credit cards and I have heard the CC companies add extra service charges. We never used a credit card in Italy! The ATM's worked perfectly Visa/AMex/MCard
I considered getting a 4 trip Trenitalia pass but, they require reservations for a certain time. We saved quite a bit of money by just purchasing tickets at the station a day before our travel. You will have no problem...even I figured it out!
Charming Local Color AND Good Food!
by Lacristina about Trattoria Marione
A great, busy, reasonably priced trattoria in Firenze. Good food, but can get crowded. Specializes, as many restaurants in Florence do, in ribollita, the fabulous "reboiled" soup of Florence thickened with bread. Fridays you'll find "baccala' e ceci" cod (dried, salted cod, refreshed in cold water) and chickpeas.
Tables are close together - but this adds to the fun. Every time I've eaten there, we've ended up having a lovely chat with the folks at the table next to us!
They have a vast menu and everything we've ever ordered has been wonderful. Good for lunch, too. Closed Sunday. Loved their "crostini alla fiorentina," toasted rustic bread spread with chopped, herbed tomatoes or a liver pate. Wonderful.
