None in or very near to SM Novella.

Some fairly nearby (you may need a taxi or bus).

we have used autoeurope on borgo ognissante a short taxi ride from the station on several occasions. notable because access to this office from the west and south is particularly easy as it is only one block north of the river with easy landmarks ( excelsior hotel and grand hotel ) for the necessary turn. one could probably walk in 15-20 minutes without luggage thru the old section of the city, but taxi is easiest.

We used AutoEurope as in the reply above. It worked out very well for us, and the location was near our hotel, making driving out of the city into the countryside very easy. Driving in Florence is not fun.

Travel Tips for Florence

Boboli Gardens

by littlesam1

The Boboli Gardens are just behind the Pitti Palace. They are very large and have some very steep hills. Be prepared for lots of walking and lots of climbing. But they are worth the efforts. The art work combined with the gardens are very beautiful. Also there are some unusual sculptures and pieces of sculptures throughout the gardens. This one pictured here really caught my interest.

Wanting to come back ?Here the wishing wild boar!

by paoseo

Behind the Piazza Repubblica, in the centre of town, there is the Loggia del Porcellino or the Piglet's Loggia named after the bronze statue of a wild boar that brings you luck if you rub his nose, they say. Beside that is said also that throwing a coin to the fountain you wish to come back to Florence. But, pay attention!! Tradition says that the coin has to fall exactly in the cracks of the fountain!! I tried's not so easy!!
The statue and the little fountain that is next to it are a copy of the ancient marble model that is hold in the Galleria degli Uffizi.
If you look at one of the columns surrounding the loggia, you will find out a door: it was the entrance to the stairs leading to the bargaining room, in the roof of the loggia. If you look at it carefully, you will find some of the windows

Santa Croce. Many famous...

Santa Croce. Many famous people are entombed there including Galileo who spent 100 years I believe buried elsewhere because he was excommunicated. The Catholics forgave him and buried him in hallowed ground.

Enjoy a Martini

by MarvintheMartian about Duomo Area - Just look up!

Okay - so it's only the Martini sign, but it does look quite nice!

This neon sign is located quite high on a building near the Duomo and can be seen if you are walking towards the San Lorenzo area.

I quite like it, although I can also appreciate that many people would call it an eye sore!
It really shouldn't be there!

Salads and Great Conversation!

by Lhenne1 about Il Porcospino (The Porcupine)

From the air conditioned inside to the outside tables down the street from the market, the location itself is wonderful. But add the food to the staff and you'll never want to leave! Ask for Marino, the owner, and he'll suggest fantastic dishes and wines. Tuscany may be known for its Chianti but this place serves a deliciously light, cold white. The staff is friendly and speaks beautiful english, but if you want to try out your italian, they're very patient and helpful.

All of this in a building with ceiling frescos over 500 years old! Buon Appetit! Salads! Large, cool, inexpensive salads which can be tough to find in this region (the area like its meat and pasta). Along with great regional dishes.

Order a chilled limoncello (lemon liquer) to end the meal, or a delicious coffee. The staff can also suggest some deserts if you just tell them what you're looking for.
