Hostals in Florence

by bfigs

I am an older (early fifties) traveler and am looking for a hostel to stay in Florence. Some have private rooms. If anyone has some favorites they would recommend that would be wonderful. The central area would be best. Thanks~

Look at www.venere.com first for all Italian hotels/b&bs etc. It is reliable, has honest guest reviews and good mapping. It also lists some hostels and budget hotels.

Although I am a similar age I prefer not to stay in hostels, as I can usually find accommodation in hotels or b&bs within my budget. However, you can explore Florence hostels here on www.hostelworld.com or www.hostelbookers.com

Actually, VT is stuffed with such information.

I see no need for anyone to go to a site where one has to sign up before one can enter.

That is the link which you are providing.

You are advertising. Advertising is not allowed on VT, and your post will be deleted.

Leics,

islandr has simply provided another source of information. As you get an advert in for Venere in practically every post you make can we expect to start seeing your posts deleted also?

Islandr has the website as his/her external link.

I spent five night at hotel Collodi. It is located in San Lorenzo area and it isn't far from the train station. I paid 74 euros for a double room. This accomodation is really a niceplace to stay in Florence.

My favorite hostel in the world is located in Florence so I was very excited to be able to answer your question. I'm really not exaggerating there. It really is my favorite hostel in the world. I had reservations for one hostel in Florence for three nights, but hated it and ended up switching to this hostel. It's called Academia Hostel and is located as close to the center as you can possibly get. It's just a block away from the Duomo, which also helps when you're trying to find your way back at the end of the day! :o) Anyway, here's the website. http://www.academyhostel.eu/ It's a hostel which means it's easier to meet people, but the beds are very comfortable and the rooms are very large by hostel standards. I stayed in a six bed room, but it didn't feel like it had too many people because it is set up as a loft. There's three beds on the main floor and three beds on the loft area. There are also dividers between the beds so you get more privacy. The people running it are very pleasant and easy to work with. You definitely won't regret staying here.

Travel Tips for Florence

Stroll around the city center,...

by Sarah97

Stroll around the city center, and in Piazza Signoria area you can find the many beautiful sculptures including 'Fontana del Biancone (The Nepturne Fountain). Look at me in front of famous Nepture Fountain in front of Palazzo Vecchio.

Piazza Signoria is about 3~4 blocks away from Duomo.

Book now for Easter and the Scoppio del Carro

by MarvintheMartian

This event takes place on Easter Sunday and it's finale is the exposion of a cart in front of the Duomo.
Processions start to take place much ealier with many dressed up locals.
Get up earlier and follow the sound of the drums!

More on the Scoppio del Carro:
Its origins go back to the 12th century and the appropriately named Pazzino dei Pazzi.

The crusader was the first to climb over the walls of the besieged Jerusalem and his courage was rewarded with a few stones from the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.

Each Easter they light the symbolic 'nuovo fuoco'.

A cart in the form a dovecote is pulled into Piazza del Duomo by two oxen. During Easter mass the stones supply the spark and the cart is suddenly twisting and turning with light and noise supplied by fireworks.

The success of the spectacular guarantees a good harvest and fortune for the city in the year ahead.

Tuscany is Florence, Siena, Lucca and San Gimignano but also many other lovely places such as Vinci, Pistoia, Fiesole, Arezzo, Montepulciano, Monteriggioni or Massa Maritima. Rent a car a visit the whole region admiring the nice countryside landscape.

Local summer hangout

by gfinesilver about Piazza Santo Spirito

As the summer progresses, this piazza becomes more and more lively. there are a couple of bars and restaurants in the square, but most people come here to hang out, talk, meet people, drink wine, etc. In my opinion, it is by far the best place to be. Anything you want

Full Tuscany Meal

by happyhormones about *forgot*

My tour group took me to a full Tuscany meal, so I can't remember the name of the place. I just wanted to say that while it was relatively on the pricey side, it was worth it. I loved my Tuscan meal!
