Just a quick question

by craic

i seem to remember he is the patron saint of jewellers or goldsmiths

Re: Just a quick question

by domenicococozza

Someone was kidding you if they told you Benvenuto Cellini was the patron saint of jewellers or goldsmiths! See AlexDJ's tip on http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel/Europe/Italy/Tuscany/Florence-151105/Things_To_Do-Florence-Ponte_Vecchio_Arno_River-BR-5.html

Judging by all the padlocks left by lovers, the statue might be Mr Yale

Re: Just a quick question

ah - when you were there there were padlocks?

because i saw the padlocks on rail before the bridge but on the rail around the cellini statue just a sign saying locks will be removed

Travel Tips for Florence

Lucky number 14

by codrutz

You might know my lucky number is 14 (and more exact 214), so I am always happy to see such a nice door at number 14 on a street in my travels. And I like doors, being a subject themself in photography. I am thinking if I would enjoy living at this address in Florence - yes I would :)

Actually the number might be unreadable as the picture is too small in VT but you will take my word for it won't you? :)

David the Protector

by beesaj

I was driven to the original place where the David statue watches over Florence. If you look carefully you can see him from Ponte Vecchio. In this location you will also have a wonderful view of Florence.

The Designer's home

by LostBoyPN about Salavatorre Ferragamo

Salvatorre Ferragamo lives in Florence, so going to his shop is like visiting him. I didn't buy anything 'cause I didn't have much money at the time, but it's kind of cool to be in the designer's backyard. Expensive clothes, shoes, etc. A lot

Airplane, train, car.....

by GeoDenia

There are many ways to go to Fireze.
1. There are 2 airports: Americo Vespucci (for domestic flights) and Galileo Galilei (for international flights near Pisa).
2. There are 2 bus - stations: Lazzi Station (for international services across Europe) and SITA (for domestic services).
3. Railway: Across Europe.
4. Car: Take the A1 highway.

Neighborhood Trattoria

by Sonador3 about Trattoria Sostanza-Troia

I like this place because I usually travel to Italy solo and here they seat you at a table with a lot of other people, and you're kind of forced to make conversation. The food is simple and delicious. They have a wonderful Tortellini in brodo and the grilled meats are top notch.

This restaurant is located on a street that has a lot of hookers -- hence the name. Though in recent trips the neighborhood seems "quieter" than in earlier trips. Bisteca Fiorentina, served rare. But these days you'll have to order it without the bone as it's no longer legal to serve meat on the bone. Also, Sostanza is very popular, so make reservations.
