Nowadays, when old Cliffie travels with all the little Clavens in tow, he tends to favour Holiday Inns. The group has two hotels in Florence, and on his last visit old Cliffie stayed at the Holiday Inn Florence South. It's 15 minutes from the city centre but there is a frequent bus service from a stop across the road. In summer the hotel has an outdoor pool.

Just wondering if any one can recommend any Italy Tours they have been on. I'm looking at doing an extensive tour of the main cities for a period of 2 weeks.

We did a DIY tour in June....took a fair bit of planning, but I'm glad we did it. It was a fantastic holiday and we got to do exactly what we wanted.
We did 4 nights Rome (Holiday Inn Express San Giovanni), then took the train to Florence for 3 nights (Holiday Inn Florence), then train to Rimini for 5 nights (Mercure La Gradisca), then train to Milan (Hotel Terminal).
All hotels except the Rimini one were good.

I just came back from a trip to Paris and we did all the sightseeing ourselves.
In hindsight, even though it was a great accomplishment in organising our trip, it was very time consuming. So next time, we want to try a tour.
