Small gem in a jewel of a city.

Just returned from a two week visit to Italy with a seven day, six night stay in Florence. We had, fortunately, booked at Hotel Colomba and being there made our stay in this lovely city even nicer!
This is an intimate hotel (14/15 rooms) located on the second floor of an old building close to the Medici Palace and the Duomo. The hotel is within walking distance of all the major sites and, for us, about a twenty minute walk to the train station. The minute we arrived at the second floor lobby, via the small lift, we were made to feel at home and most welcome.
This is a family-owned and run hotel. The couple are delightful people, the wife very fluent in English, and the sons helpful and patient with people like me who managed, twice, to mess up the free internet connection--a very nice service offered by the hotel. I particularly appreciated getting to know Sabina, a young woman who works with the family to make everyones stay so welcoming.
Our room was number 11, a corner room with two large windows, large, excellent bed (with ironed sheets no less!), and another single bed, lots of hangers, spotlessly clean, plenty of storage space and an in-room safe.
The small bathroom, equiped with a hair dryer and shower, was clean, well lit, and with plenty of hot water. My requirements for a bathroom have nothing to do with size and everything to do with cleanliness and lots of hot water--this hotel delivered!
The continental breakfast, included in the price of the room, is excellent and varied--eggs, selection of cold cuts and cheeses, fresh fruit, juices, cereals, yogurt, sweet and regular rolls, with delicious coffee of your choice made to order and served to you. It was a delicious and pleasent way to start the day.
Price-excellent, service-excellent, cleanliness-excellent, atmosphere-excellent (warm and inviting), location-excellent, staff-charming and helpful, food-excellent.
I recommend this hotel for anyone without hesitation: business or vaction, family, couple or single. Should my husband and I be so lucky as to return to Florence, I will look forward to staying at the Colomba again and would feel like I was returning to a friend's place.
Great Place to Stay, Florence Italy

We were so happy with our stay at this hotel. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Sabina made our reservations for the museums and gave us a map and recommendations on other places to see. Our room was a quad and there was plenty of room for us (4 adults). We had 4 single beds that were very comfortable. The location of the hotel is excellent -you can walk to everything. The train station is an easy walk only 15 minutes. The breakfast was very good. I can't say enough on how wonderful it was to stay in such a friendly comfortable hotel. We highly recommend staying at this hotel.
Great location

We stayed in the same building, one floor down, two years ago. The same ppl own this hotel and price it a lot less. It is clean with very friendly staff and the location couldn't be better. Medici Palace is two doors down. There is an exhibit on Da Vinci on the main floor. The Duomo is at the end of the block. San Lorenzo and all the vendors are a couple blocks away. Michelangelo's David is also two blocks away....what more could you want?!?
A Gem of a Hotel

My wife and i stayed in the Hotel Columba for 3 nights in May 2005. This hotel is a little gem. Location was excellent; 2 blocks to the Duomo, one block to the Accedemia in the other direction. All of Florences sights are walking distance. The staff was very warm and welcoming. Our room was a nice size and immaculate and quiet. Breakfast too was top notch. We would definitly stay here again.
Loved the Colomba

The Hotel Colomba was a friendly, clean, comfortable and convenient place to stay while in Florence. It is a very short taxi ride from the train station.
It is only 2 blocks to the Academia Gallery and also within walking distance to everything we wished to see in Florence such as Duomo, Baptistry, Uffizi Gallery, San Croce, Ponte Vecchia.
Breakfasts were very tasty and gave us a good start to our days. The staff was very friendly and helpful, directing us to some neighborhood resturants with authentic Italian meals (and good prices!!).
We would go back!!!!!!!

We stayed in this hotel in May 2005. It is very centrally located so it was really easy to get around. The room was modern and comfortable with all the usual amenities and was very reasonably priced. Breakfast was the best we had during our holiday and the staff were very friendly and helpful. All in all, a very pleasant experience!
Wow! Fantastic, Warm & Inviting

This is the place to stay. The staff are warm, friendly and so helpful it is hard to believe - they even remember what type of coffee you want for breakfast. They were also very willing to help us make arrangements for the tours, confirmations of reservations, etc. Hopefully we will be able to return and stay with them again.
We located the Colomba on the internet and this is a great service. And it lived up to everything we imagined. How nice to have free access to the internet, a nice extra. We were a group of three couples and they located our rooms close together. The rooms were clean, comfortably and cool - the air conditioners worked very well. Each morning a table was set that allowed all 6 of us to sit together. Delightful!
The hotel's location is within walking distance of all you want to visit in Florence and if you need to return for a rest it is easy to do without feeling like you have to walk to much. Thank you for your kind attention to our needs. I need more adjectives.
A Fantastic Hotel in a Fantastic City

Wow! I had such a wonderful stay at Hotel Colomba. The owners are very nice and they make you feel right at home. Its a beatiful hotel, very clean, and it makes you feel like you are really in Italy. The hotel is extremely close to the main tourist attractions. There is no need to use a bus. They have a breakfast every morning and they make wonderful espresso and cappucino. Also, even though the hotel is close to the city center, it is very quiet inside which makes it a good place after walking around the city all day. You will definitely feel like you are on vacation in paradise. The next time that I go to Florence, I want to stay at Hotel Colomba.
