Great Hotel!
by TripAdvisor Member Eastmanlb
Stayed at the Hotel Davanzati 11/03/04-11/05/04 and loved it. Tom and his family run the Hotel and do a wonderful job at making guests feel at home. We stayed in a Junior Suite and it was perfect for our stay. Breakfast was good and included in our room rate. There are also two computers for you to use to access the internet at no charge. We will definitely stay at the Davanzati again! (No I don't work for the hotel or anybody affiliated with it. I'm just a happy customer!)
Classic charm. New amenities.

We stayed at Hotel Davanzati in mid October. Good location near the Uffizi, a couple blocks from the Duomo. Recently remodeled, it features all the modern amenities, yet retains a quaint Italian charm that sets it apart. A lot of that can be attributed to the family who runs the hotel. Everyone is friendly and very accommodating. The availability of the Internet is a bonus. We used it much more than we thought we would.
No view from our room, other than scaffolding. Be careful…it’s easy to sleep, and sleep…and sleep. There is NO light once the lights are off. We had no idea what time of day it was when we awoke. Overall, a good hotel in a good location for a decent price.
We recommend the Hotel Davanzati...
Wonderful!!!

Marvelous Davanzati Hotel in Florence
by A TripAdvisor Member
We spent two nights at the Davanzati Hotel on October 19 & 20. What a wonderful family-run hotel with great hospitality and service. The grandpa, 81, his son, Fabrizio & wife Patrizia, and son, Tom run a wonderful, friendly respite. The room was huge and had a great up-to-date bathroom, CNN and BBC on TV. The breakfasts were great from the latte, yogurt, ham, cheese, cereal, bread, croissants, etc. And there is free Internet access in the breakfast room. It is in the center of Florence where we walked to the Duomo, Ponte Veccio, Pitti Palace, Boboli Gardens, and the Accadamia Galleria where Michelangelo's David is located. We were able, also, to walk to the train station for our return trip to Venice. Phyllis & Jack Waldie
Best hotel we stayed in all trip!

We loved this hotel, despite the 2nd floor walkup setup. The rates are very reasonable for what you get. This family-run hotel (the family has been at it for 30 years in Florence) knows how to treat guests. The renovations are only 1 year old, so everything is new and clean and in perfect working order. The bathrooms and shower were wonderfull after a 2 hour car trip.
One word of caution - Rick Steves Tours has booked 1000 rooms over the next year for its groups. So expect to hear a lot of English in the lobby and see large groups of tourists wandering about.
Wonderful stay at Davanzati

Wonderful hotel in Florence. Perhaps the best hotel we stayed in during our trip. Wonderful helpful staff. The recently renovated rooms are comfortable, clean and spacious. The bathrooms were spotless. The location is unbeatable. The free Internet access was a bonus! All for a very reasonable price.
Highly recommended
Our new favorite hotel...

We've visited Florence four times, and stayed in four different hotels, but now that we've stayed at the Davanzati, it will be our choice in the future. A lovely hotel, really nice and friendly staff, great breakfast. They take very good care of their guests. The high speed Internet connection worked perfectly from our room. And they have the best shower in Europe. The owners were pleased to learn they are currently the #1 hotel in Florence on TripAdvisor. We agree completely.
Wonderful

My wife and I spent five nights at the Davanzati celebrating our 10th anniversary. The family owners are wonderful. They are always willing to help and their restaurant reccomendations were great. We stayed in Room 201, a junior suite. It is not large by US standards, but was fine for us. It faces the street, which can be noisey, especially on Saturday nights, but other nights it was OK. Being close to the reception area was not noisey, and meant that we had good wireless internet reception. The bathroom has 110V outlets, which they dont advertise. We rented a car to see Tuscany and found it very difficult to drive in Florence itself, but enjoyed the valet parking in the hotel. Always ask for driving directions! Mapquest and maps.msn.com both failed completely.
A great time in Florence

My husband and I traveled to Florence during the first week in November to visit our son. It was our first trip out of the USA in 19 years. We used trip advisor to help pick our hotels. We were not disappointed. The hotel was lovely, clean and very well located. The room was large with a wonderful shower. Our first room faced the court yard. Unfortunately it was very noisy due to anarchists illegally living in an adjourning building. The owners changed our room ( a double to a jr suite) for the same price. We have been told that this problem is being addressed. I think most of the hotels have some noise problems. We also had some problems with dinner reservations. This too was rectified. We are going back in April and booked our room as soon as we got back. Enjoy!!!!
The best place to stay in Florence

A wonderful 3 night stay. A very special place with lots of character and extremely well located in the best part of town. I also recomend a trendy bar "Slowly" conveniently almost next door.

The Florence Hotel Smackdown!
by skywalkerbeth
OK, I have my Venice and Rome hotels set. The only one left is for Florence, so if you have stayed at the below or have even better ones to suggest, feel free to opine here.
Which one gives the most bang for the buck? (or just the most bang!)
I'd like a room with a view but at minimum a terrace (with a view is better of course). Doesn't have to be a view of the Armo, the Duomo is fine or just those beautiful rooftops. This is a late May trip.
The list:
Lungarno
Excelsior (Starwood)
Hotel Europa
San Gallo Palace Hotel
Hotel Davanzati
Residenza Il Villino
Villa San Michele has no open rooms on my dates of travel, but it looked pretty and was a consideration.
any other suggestions welcome, thanks!

Hi,
I have not stayed here yet, but it was recommended to me by people I know in Florence. It is called the Rocco Forte Hotel Savoy, situated right smack in the Piazza Della Repubblica. Check it out on the web and let me know.

Restaurant and trip to Siena
by richard48
I am staying at Hotel Davanzati for my 20th wedding anniversary in March and wanted to find a local romantic retaurant for the big night. Also we wanted to go to Siena for the day. Any advice about the best way to get there would be appreciated.

For your anniversary dinner I am suggesting Borgo San Jacopo (Borgo San Jacopo 62/r Oltrarno; telephone, 055 28 16 61; dinner only, Wed. to Mon). It is located on the Oltrarno side of the River Arno in the Hotel Lungarno (www.lungarnohotels.com).
This place has flare with river views. Ask for a low-lit table by the window and watch the sun set on the River Arno as you enjoy contemporary and inventive twists on traditional Italian dishes. This place can be very romantic.
For getting to Siena, take the bus from Santa Maria Novella Station. It is easy. No need for reservations. There are plenty of departures; we took a an 8:50am bus. You will get to see a bit of the Tuscan countryside. Loved the duomo at Sienna! Take lunch on the Campo, the grand public square where the palio is raced each August. Tour Palazzo Pubblico (on the Campo); climb the 505 steps to the top of its tower for stunning views.
Enjoy your celebration in Florence, a city of great art!

The best wayto get to Siena is indeed by bus, but it does not leave from the bus station at Santa Maria novella station. It leaves from the Sita bus station, which is across the street and to the right of the station, down a side-street.
It is best to take a bus, because Siena's railway station is some considerable distance away from its historical centre....a 15-20 minute walk, or a bus ride.
You can find bus times and details in (mostly) English here, under 'linea firenze-siena':

Put 'autostazione sita firenze' into googlemaps and you will see exactly where the Siena bus leaves from.
Buy your tickets there but allow time to do so....there can be queues.

Regarding the restaurant, I can't give you advice, sorry, but for Siena, take the bus, and the bus station in Firence is opposite Santa maria Novella railway station.
