Florence's Best Hotel

My husband and I stayed at the hotel 4 years ago and loved it, so when I planned our family trip with daughters, son in law and grandchildren we booked it on our way out of Florence for
two nights. It was just as we remembered. Very large rooms, very clean and beautifully decorated - we all loved the shower and the free parking for our 2 rental cars (which is unheard of in Florence). Also, they have snacks, wine and Hors d'euvres every evening at 6:30 or so. The staff is very helpful and pleasant, free internet is also available plus the breakfast (which wasn't as good as years past but still its free). I love the "left bank" of the Arno - it is not as hectic as the other side and is a short pleasant walk to the Ponte Vecchio or a 5 minute bus ride. They have great restaurants on this side and some of the best gelato in the free world. Would recommend it to anyone and have done so many times.

Unique Quality: The location, free parking, the room size and bathroom size and cleanliness.

Great place - just off downtown

We (self, wife and adult son) stayed for 3 days in August 2008. We picked this location after consulting other reviews by VT members and were quite pleased. Service was friendly and punctual. Our room, and the common areas, were tidy and nicely decorated. The hotel continues to offer a free wine & snack happy hour. They offer wireless throughout the hotel as well as providing a public use computer and a VOIP phone (free for 10 minutes/day/room). I was pleasantly surprised that these computer/communications services were included in the room price. I would have to note, though, that the overall price was much higher than reported in earlier reviews. We paid E155 per night for triple w. breakfast during August, the busy season.

Unique Quality: The location - just far enough away from the center of the city to be quiet and comfortable but within a 15 - 20 minute walk of most anything in the historic city center.

Good Value and Even Better Service

Eight of us stayed at the Hotel David from 19th until 22nd October 2007. Can't recommend this enough. After staying at a "functional" tourist hotel next to the "Tower" in Pisa this made a refreshing change. Although two bridges down from the Ponte Vecchio (15 minute stroll) this hotel is welcoming and roomy. The staff (and I mean all of them) were friendly and couldn't have been more helpful. Rooms are large and very clean. Breakfast was fresh and plentiful. Even had a Happy Hour which was free. Just some red/white wine and nibbles but a nice touch. Within 50 metres in a regular "D" bus that pops you straight into the city and even ends up at the station if you want to use it to arrive or go home as we did. Cabs from the Station to the hotel was only 11 Euros between four of us so getting around was not expensive. They even gave a small discount to anyone called "David". Happy to be emailed with any questions. "A Presto"

Fabulous Hotel in Firenze

Florence has a plethora of hotels to choose from so it can be a bit daunting trying to find the gem that lies in the sea of rocks. We found a lovely little hotel in Florence. It was a stone's throw from all the sights, in a slightly quieter area of town. The rooms are spacious and elegantly decorated, and eventhough they weren't particularly our style, they were very nice and clean. Rooms have A/C, which is vital in the summer and are fully sound-proofed. Also, for what is included, the price is exceptional. We will certainly stay here again.

Hotel David

Hotel David was in a great location for families. Close enough to the city to walk or short taxi, but far enough out of the crowds. It was located on the opposite side of the Arno, near Piazzele Michaelangelo. The staff was very helpful and the rooms were comfortable. I would recommend this hotel and would stay here again.

Small 3 star hotel

Hotel David can be reached by car without hassle from the east and south. They have their own parking lot. We had no problem walking from the hotel to the Duomo area. The staff was great. They graciously helped with our baggage retrieval from Alitalia although we were spending only one night. The breakfast was good. The room was cool and had good beds. Some road noise could be heard but it was not at all a problem. A computer was available just off the lobby to check email and such. Great value. We reccommend Hotel David!!

Perfect Hotel David

by A TripAdvisor Member

Just returned from 4 nights at the Hotel David and we can not fault it.
The Hotel is spotlessly clean and the staff are very helpful. At 6.30 every evening they serve complimentry wine and aperitives, which are delightful.
One piece of advice the rooms have no curtains/drapes but they do have electrically operated shutters and you have to hunt for the switch, oh and do use the mosquito killer supplied in your room I didn't the first night and got bitten twice.
Stay at this Hotel it is wonderful.

Hotel David - a pearl in Florence

by TripAdvisor Member JoT3

We stayed at this small boutique hotel in August 2004. which was situated along the Arno River a short walking distance to the city center. Two young men ran the hotel in an exceptionally efficient manner. They were helpful and courteous and tended to all of our needs and requests. They couldn't help us enough. The rooms were immaculate and appointed in lovely period furniture with wood floors. Breakfasts were lovely. Bathroom had a nice shower. There was a lovely garden with refreshments served in the early evening compliments of the house. It was a peaceful place to relax after a long day of sightseeing. We paid 90 euros per night. An incredible find. We would definitely stay there again. I would highly recommend this hotel for people who want a lovely sleep for a great price.

Hotel David Is A Great Find

by A TripAdvisor Member

We liked this hotel a lot. It is a vintage Italian house just outside of downtown Florence, a good walk (15 minute) or short bus ride away from the Uffizi, Duomo and other sites. It was quite reasonably priced compared with other downtown hotels, and since it it an old Florentine mansion, the rooms were very spacious and tastefully, if simply, appointed. The bathroom was large and with gorgeous Italian tile walls and floor. The staff was very attentive and helpful, with good English, and the nice breakfast was served in a beautiful second-floor room. There was also a great sitting area with comfortable chairs and sofas and a lot of reading material in both English and Italian. Finally, there is a self-serve Laundromat just down the street that was very handy after traveling for a week with our four-person family. 2 loads of laundry and 3 dryer cycles ran around 17 Euros, but that pales in comparison to what it would have cost to send out laundry from a hotel, and only took about 1-1/2 hours. We would definitely stay there again.

Lovely hotel - great staff

by TripAdvisor Member needavacationplanned

I booked the Hotel David after reading the reviews posted on this site. The hotel was very comfortable and the continental breakfast was plenty. It was a little far from the sites (about a 15-20 minute walk to the Ponte Vecchio), but the walk goes next to the river so it was quite lovely. There is an excellent self-service restaurant around the corner from the hotel. Ask at the front desk because the staff go there for their meals. While in the restaurant, the hotel manager actually recognized me and stayed to help me purchase what I needed. Once back in the hotel, he had dinner plates brought up to the room so we would be more comfortable.

The lounge area is very cozy with appetizers and wine set out from 6:30-7:30 (at least while we were there).

Golden Tours or Hotel David?

by Dakota20

Just wondering. We have booked a reservation at Hotel David and thinking of taking a tour through Golden tours. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Re: Golden Tours or Hotel David?

Hotel David is a nice hotel at the end of Viale Michelangelo, and from there you can easily walk to firenze centre, very good booking you have made! Firenze is small, and you can do all by walk, avoid this pre-paide tour and explore "my beautifull town" by your-self! If you need any help let me know!
Uffizi you can book online and avoid the kilometric queue: http://www.yourwaytoflorence.com/uffizi/ From the Hotel David, also, take your time to have lunch in the San Niccolò osteria Antica Mescita (i would reccomend a bottle of Chianti Leonard): you can walk, about 10/15 min from your hotel, just keep along the river and it's on your left side near by the garden just before Ponte Alle Grazie. http://travel.yahoo.com/p-travelguide-2783299-osteria_antica_mescita_san_niccolo_florence-i
