from Pisa to florence by bus or train

by vincentbuhagiarooooo

Hi to all,

Me and my wife will be visiting Florence next summer and the flight is to Pisa airport.
We would like to know how, and best way to travel from PISA to Florence.
Is it possible by bus or train and how long the trip will take and cost.

Thank you in advance

It is easiest to take the train.

There are frequent trains from Pisa Centrale to Florence SMN (Santa Maria Novella) station, about 10 minutes walk from the Duomo, with a journey time of around an hour. One-way fare is 5.80 euro. Times, details and fares in English here;

http://trenitalia.it/homepage_en.html

I'll explore buses for you....

Have just re-read your post and it seems you need the train from Pisa airport? Still very easy.....you may or may not have to change trains at Pisa Centrale. The segment from Pisa Aeroporto to Pisa Centrale only takes about 5 minutes and the train goes veeeeeeeery slowly!

Use the Trenitalia site to find times and fares, but put in 'pisa aeroporto' when you search.

I can't find any ordinary buses on my usual sites (not surprising when train is so cheap, frequent and quick).

Terravision run buses from Pisa airport to Florence:

http://www.terravision.eu/florence_pisa.html

but the train is just as easy, and cheaper....and, most importantly, won't get stuck in traffic. I've used Terravision both ways, but now prefer train for that reason alone (and it's cheaper!).

There are some direct trains from Pisa Airport to Florence, but most trains leave from Pisa Centrale. Trains run every 30 - 60 minutes between Pisa Airport and Pisa Centrale. The trains from Pisa to Florence run every 30 - 60 minutes and the trip takes just over an hour.

Full details at www.trenitalia.com and in English if required.

Travel Tips for Florence

Florence as a local

by sucesso

Locals make tehmselves available to show visitors their favourite views, bars, restaurants, shops and secret spots.
As alternative to mass tourism, this is a different way to explore the city as a inside perspective.
Check it out: www.rentalocalfriend.com The most unforgettable moment I had in Florence was when I had my first pizza.
No metter where you go, no metter how simple the bar is you will always have an incredible pizza experience.

Watch the sunset from the Ponte Vecchio over the River Arno. The shops on the bridge have housed various businesses for hundreds of years. Now they are the place to shop for gold jewelry. There are so many choices it is mind boggling. As I looked out the window from one of the stores I noticed a rather large brown creature swimming in the river. I hoped that it was a muscrat or a beaver, but I realized when it made its way to the bank that it was the largest RAT I had ever seen. Observe the Arno from a safe distance.

The other side of the Arno

by Bigs

Have a look at the area around the San Frediano church........ it´s less touristy and has some charme with it´s small streets...... The view over the Arno to the Palazzo Vecchio in the early morning hours can also be very lovely........

Fashions

We found a number of really good, affordable clothing stores on the street right before you cross over the Arno on the Ponte Vecchio. If you are facing the bank with the Boboli Gardens with the Duomo behind you, go to the street to the left before going over the bridge (borgo S. Jacopo A). Just remember the sobering fact that Italian women do not have large breasts or hips. Also, they seem to be much more comfortable wearing extremely tight clothing then we do here in the States.

Italian hospitality

by BlueBeth about La Giostra

We have a tradition when we travel that on our last evening we try and find a special place to eat. It helps to get over the sadness we feel at leaving a place. In Florence that place was La Giostra, it was a great choice, I'd found a great tip on VT regarding the place and we weren't disappointed.
From stepping through the door the service couldn't have been friendlier and the food was fantastic. We loved the antipasti, but might not have ordered so much if we had realised that a plate of snacks would be provided free of charge.
