When the church was originally built, in 1250, outside the second circle of walls it was an oratory, but as time passed it was enlarged to the present size. The main entrance to the church of Santissima Annunziata is through Small Chapel of the Vows, built from designes by Michelozzo. The small cloister is richly decorated by the numerous frescoes. The coffered ceiling of the church, by Volterrano, is beautiful. The hemispherical cupola is designed by Leon Battista Alberti. Inside the church is the Giambologna Chapel transformed by the sculotor for his own burial. The most valuable and attractive part inside the church is The Tabernacle of the Annunziata and the Loggiato dei Serviti. In front of the church on the square, there is the Equestrian statue of Grand Duke Ferdinand I

Urgent Help Needed with Hotel Choice
by StuartSage
Another one from me regarding hotel choice in Florence - I am still looking for a 4* or equivalent in Florence for mid-September. I do not want to pay a fortune for a bland international hotel - I want character and value for money and excellent service.
Not asking for much am I??? But I would really appreciate some help & advice on this question as I am looking at every internet site possible and whilst the choice is overwhelming, without knowing the hotels I don't want to make an expensive mistake!
Thanks everyone for your help!

Quite frankly most 4 star hotels in touristy cities like Florence are pretty bland.
If you want a difference 4 star experience then the
ART GALLERY HOTEL and the HOTEL CONTINENTALE. located just behind Ponte Vecchio, both new with a very trendy, ecclectic clientele.
There are the old standard choices like the Westin Excelsior (yawn, grandmas hotel, very American - Laurie Bush stays there) and the SAVOY (yawn!)...
Other cool hotels are like the Torre Guelfa - located in an old tower, with great bar on top of the tower with unparallel view of Floville.

Thanks for the suggestions - you hit the nail on the head - I have no desire to stay in hotel like the Westin!

I stayed at the hotel cavour and it was quite nice. it has a great central location near the duomo , and the best part was a rooftop area where you can sip a few, break out some wine and cheese and view the beauty that is Florence. If you "google" it, I think you can come up with the website and some pictures. It was five years ago that I stayed there, however. The only thing missing, was that I wish it were furnished with old world charm...it is a bit italian modern.

Art and COntinental are really cool, great bars and very good pan-aisan/tuscan brunch at art gall - the green tea tiramisu is great, I have a writeup on it under my Florence page.
