You have to take the shuttle into Florence first, and then catch the "Siena RAPIDA" from there - bus station is near the Santa Maria Novella railway station. I think it costs about €4 for the shuttle and then €12 for the bus to Siena, where you get off at Piazza Gramsci.
Timetables for both are on here although I don't know whether they are up to date: http://www.florenceitaly.net/bus.html

Yes, get into central florence first.

The Florence>Siena bus timetable is here:

http://www.sitabus.it/wps/portal/DovePartire_Toscana

('Linea Firenze-Siena').

The Sita terminal is opposite SM Novella,on Viale Dei Cadorna (2/3 minutes away). Too complicated to explain here, but very simple to get to when you are there. Just look at a map, ask someone, or go to the tourist info office directly opposite the station.

Don't be tempted to take the train to Siena: the station is a good way from the town centre.

Thank to your post with bus timetable Florence-Siena we decided to make this trip possible in last half-a-day in Florence.
just one more question: Are there key-locks at the SM Novella train station? Or any other possibility to leave our laggage close to the Bus and Train station? On our way back from Sienna we have to harry to catch the train to Milano.

There's a left luggage facility at SM Novella, on the ground floor on the far right as you face the train tracks. Open 6am to midnight.

The relevant website is

http://www.grandistazioni.it/client_enhtml/page.php?id=10017

It's a bit of a faff to get the info (with a very irritating bit of music playing continually) if you go through the basic address link.

It says rates are:

'3.80 € for the first 5 hours
0.60 € per hour for the next 7 hours (from the 6th to the 12th)
0.20 € per hour from the 13th hour.'

Thanks for the information; its what I had suspected but now I don't have to waste my time trying to look for the bus at the airport. Thanks again!!!

Travel Tips for Florence

Spend a few days!! This city...

by sargentjeff

Spend a few days!! This city is so beautiful and interesting it deserves your time. My favorite italian city. Well, I love the south too, but for the rest, this takes the cake Walking up the the Duomo and, well after an attempted pickpocketing, viewing the enormity of the building. It is absolutely incredible to look at. After all, it took 175 years to construct. That's like 10 generations in those days. :) And they didn't even have Black and Decker tools. Boy what a bummer.

HERE IS A GOOD MAP OF THE CITY

The new marketplace

by Karahan about Mercato Nuovo

Silk and some goods for luxury were selling there, hundreds years ago. You can find leather, bags, souvenirs, gifts and many more nowadays. Lodge is not big at all and there are 15+ street shops to buy something.

There is another famous Florence thing just behind the building at south side; Il Porcellino (boar) Many bags that you can see everywhere in the city, marbles, silk clothes, leather jackets etc.

walking is the only way

by EllenH

Everything is with in walking distance and also walking distance from the train station. There is no better way to get to see the ins and outs of Florence then on foot. You can cover it all in a day.
