Food, art and history
by bpwillet
As most of you know I love learning things when I travel. Anything about history or the culture of a place intrigues me. Florence did that almost at every turn. So much exploded on the world in the form of great thinkers and artists, and to be all in one place. The art was amazing.
The food was also pretty incredible! I think the best retaurant is Za Za's near San Lorenzo. I am sorry I don't have a picture of it but it is so worth it! I would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone visiting Florence. Try some of the local Chianti or other regional wines. I am not much of a wine drinker but it was really nice. The gelato was great too. I couldn't get enough of the stuff! Believe me-try it and you will be hooked. I think my fondest memory of Florence is meeting up with my friend Katie and her friends from her study abroad program. It is amazing what travel like that will do to a group of people. It was so great to hear how their time in Florence had affected them and to learn about their experiences.
Out the door and just to the...

Out the door and just to the left of our hotel is the Piazza del Duomo with the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiori (Duomo 1296-1436), the Campanile di Giotto (Giotto's Tower c. 14th century) and the Battistero di San Giovanni (the Baptistry). This is the front facade of the Duomo.
Piazzale Michelangelo and Beyond! Awesome views!!
by Fritzanity
Take the bus or walk Oltrarno (across river) and up the hill to Piazzale Michelangelo, where there is a copy of the David in a big piazza on a large hill. Either enjoy the sunset or especially the nighttime view of the city from here, or get there at 5 pm and go up above the Piazzale to San Miniato al Monte. One of most beautiful, least known churches in Florence. Monks gregorian chant around 6pm. Amazing, deeply religious experience even for the most ardent aetheist.
Great Dance Club mix of study abroad kids/Italians
by Fritzanity about Dolce Zuccerho
Usually has live music or djs, is two floors, really popular with both study abroad kids and Italians. Always lots of pretty girls, fun people dancing. $5 cover includes first drink. Great location for easy movement to other clubs and to/from lots of good bars. Usually rock/pop on top floor, sometimes live, and then hip hop downstairs. In Florence, fashion is wearing whatever you feel good in so long as you wear it confidently.
Spicy food from Mexico
by Henrik_rrb about Tijuana
Okay, this is the restaurant for those of you who likes spicy food. And mexican. Tijuana is situated in the middle of the long Via Ghibbelina, in the middle between Il Duomo and Santa Croce.
Food is fantastic, so is the beer (would ask for a Corona if I were) and the service is splendid.
That the place most of the time is crowded with very good looking girls of course doesn't take the rating down either... ;)
Have been here twice, had a splendid time both of them.
The first time I apparently passed Ponte Vecchio after dinner, without noticing. So it might be a good idea to skip that last corona... ;)
The restaurant is very cousy, and although there most of the time is full of people it never gets that stressy. Make sure to call for a reservation though, as you otherwise might have big problems to get a table. Everything mexican of course. The menu is well describing the spicieness of the different meals, so make sure you get one which suit your tast. The waiters are great at explaining what's spicy and what's not.
Oh, and for those of you who doesn't believe my claims about the beautiful girls...; have a look at their homepage. I found at least five girls on the photos that I want to marry... ;D
