Baptistery - it has an octagonal plan with a pyramid roof.
Cathedral - it was begun by Arnolfo di Cambio in 1296 on the site of the ancient Cathedral of Santa Reparata.
Giotto's Bell Tower - with its square plan and height of 84.70m, it is a magnificent example of Florentine Gothic style.

Friendly and welcoming it's a must know whilst in Florence.
Italian Street Fashion
by va8eha about San Lorenzo market
A winding street filled with tons of local vendors selling leather knock-offs and local goods. Good for people watching, cheap goods, and colorful photos. Leather shoes, leather belts, leather jackets . . . and did I mention leather??? :) Depends on how good you are at bargaining? Unless you're like me, and you mistakenly try to offer the guy more than what he just quoted you. :)
Bus Map of Firenze
by ABQ_Hugh
One thing I dislike is going to a transportation site and having to look at a bus/train, etc. map one small grid at a time. I like to see an overview of the map, then be able to zoom into what I want.
These links open an .htm page that loads the map grids for the center of Firenze that are stored on the ATAF [Firenze public transportation] website. You can use your browser's scroll bars to see the sections of the map that you want

Bus Map - half-sized grids
Clicking on a grid opens the corresponding PDF file, which is higher quality and can be zoomed, printed, etc.

Tapas
by croisbeauty about La Habitacion Liquida
"La Habitacion Liquida" is small but very cute restaurants which offers cheap South American dishes called tapas. I've discovered it only by chance when strolling around, and it is situated somwhere behind the Duomo. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of the street.
The stuff of this restaurant is unconventional and very friendly, something that miss to the most of the other restaurants in the town. A piece of tapas cost from 1-1,5 Euros only. Though, it is very sharp and not recommendable to those who suffers from indigestion. After tapas, you have to drink a lot of beer or at least two glass of wine.
