More about Johanna II

A veryfriendly small hotel near centre of Florence

by TripAdvisor Member jerrybelfast

This is a sister hotel to Johanna 1. We chose it because we were travelling by car and it was one of the most centrally located hotels that had car parking. We had a delighful 5 days there. Our room was at the back and was very quiet, the front ones are facing a quite busy
road. The rooms had both central heating and air conditioning. Breakfast was buffet style and you could put it on a tray and bring it up to the room. The hotel was only 5 minutes walk from the fortezza
and another 5 munutes from a street full of excellent restaurants not far from San Lorenzo.

Eh

by TripAdvisor Member EmergMD

We were very disappointed with Johanna II. We looked at the website (www.johanna.it) and were excited about what looked to be a nice, comfortable, well-lit B&B, and found nothing like that. We had the room out back, which isn't pictured on the site

The good:
1) reasonably priced (for Florence)
2) big room with private bathroom
3) breakfast included
4) WiFi (free)
5) friendly, helpful staff
6) safe, minifridge, stovetop

the bad:
1) location. WAY out of the city center (20-30 min walk)
2) COLD. Our garage room never got well heated.
3) poor lighting. Not the bright, clean-looking rooms in the pictures.
4) Breakfast adequate, but nothing special
5) signs up saying no smoking, but smells inside the hotel (not in our room) like someone does
6) again with the tablecloth-towels...come on, Italy, get with the program
7) relatively uncomfortable bed

A bed with a hill

by TripAdvisor Member CanadianJane

The mattress had a hill in the middle of it and the shower did not drain well. The staircase made it awkward for getting luggage to our room. Breakfast was minimal and was served late on the day we really needed to get going to make a train. This B&B is not in the city centre and requires taking a bus to get to the main sights. I wouldn't recommend this one.

Just right, except for the walk

by TripAdvisor Member GlobalJunction

Not as fantastic looking as the photos, but a lovely place nonetheless. Our room faced the back so it was very quiet. Everything was clean and well-kept. It has a fair amount of charm and the staff were friendly and helpful. It did seem like a bit of a treck from the town center, especially if you have to pop in for something during the day. Still, a great deal for the price.

Italian B & B

by TripAdvisor Member MicSte

As the owner stated below in their response you get what you pay for. We chose this for its parking then our 'driver ' got nixed out of coming along. This is a standard B&B Italian style so expect that. Rooms are nice, neat, clean and really like the photos without the high gloss. It is a walk to the city center but that is beause we weren't adventurous to take the shorter bus ride but hey walking is good for you and you're in Europe not LA. Very helfpul staff and meet several other Americans coming in and out.

At home in Florence

by TripAdvisor Member pen001

Staying two nights at this delightful residence, we had a wonderful time, sleeping extremely soundly in our quiet room at the back. All the staff were friendly and helpful, and made us feel very at home. We felt able to come and go as we chose, and despite being a little far from the city centre for our very tired feet, it provided an excellent base for our discovery of Florence.

I loved the hotel

by TripAdvisor Member clens

I have decided to write this note as I found the hotel significantly better than average.I spent three days in the hotel and had a wonderful time. It really added to the fun I had in Italy. The staff were very friendly, the cleanliness was unreproachable and the location spot on. I would recommend this hotel to anybody who wants reliable accommodation and beautiful premises.

wonderful!!!

We stayed recently at Johanna II and we are very happy .. we felt like in our one Home!
The Staff at Reception is really kind and extremely helpfull with informations, maps, tips and so on, of course they all speak fluent english!
The room was very charming and absolutely clean and well maintained, with a large bathroom. We had no problem with noise from the street as there are double windows.
The breakfast was also quite good. Although definitely an italian breakfast, it had a decent variety.
At any time you can have coffee, tea and water as it is left out for those who desired throughout the day
All the B&B is clean and the atmosphere is realy cozy and friendly, just the perfect place to stay for our trip to Florence.
The location is a 15/20 minutes walk from the historical center, but it's a very nice walk, and on your way back if you are tired, you can catch the bus from the center so in 5 minutes you are in front of the B&B!
Would happily recommend to friends.

Loved the Johanna II

We had a lovely stay at the Johanna II June 5-9,2008, it could not have been better. The room was very nice and everything we expected. The breakfast room was very pleasant, the food and coffee/juice was also very good. For us we were close enough to the old city to walk everyday. We enjoyed our stay very much and would stay again.

Best way to get from the Accademia to the Uffizi

by mindyhanzik

Having to do a whirlwind tour of Florence -- we will only be there 2 days and one day is Monday when the museums are closed so we'll have to do both museums on Tuesday. What is the best way to get from the Accademia to the Uffizi? Is it reasonable walking distance (there are a couple of older ladies in our group). How much time should I allow to get there.

Be sure to get reservations. We stood in line at the Uffizi for four hours! That's half your day. This was out of season too.

Perfectly walkable (and you should walk central Florence anyway, there is no other way to see and enjoy it, imo). You could download a map beforehand (or get one from your hotel/tourist info) although sites are fairly well-signed.

Book tickets for both museums in advance to limit waiting time; they are busy places.

I agree, we also visited in off-season and gave up on the Uffizi, the line was just too long! Luckily we had prebooked the Accademia! Even if you have to pay more, make sure you prebook your tickets in advance, especially if you only have one day for both museums.
