Update: We booked a room at the Hotel Jolly for our arrival night in May before picking up our rental car for our two week Tuscan adventure. By the time we arrived it had become part of the NH hotel group.
We arrived very late, 1:00 am, after a series of flight delays. Exhausted we quickly got to our room and I was surprised that not all rooms are as upscale as the one we had a few years prior.
The bathroom wasn't the same as the huge tile affair we had on our first visit, but it was perfectly fine. I guess the beds were ok but I was at that overly tired state with miserably sore knees and didn't sleep well. I really need two or three pillows and that is hard to come by in Italy. At 2 am there's no housekeeping to call for extras. We really only spent 9 hours at the hotel and the buffet breakfast was well worth it. The NH's breakfast, included, is a 9 on a 10 scale. The restaurant doubles as a dining restaurant as well, a plus if you're exhausted at the end of a long day of siteseeing and too tired to go back out.
The Jolly Hotel is popular with tour groups. For this reason, the breakfast room is populated by big groups, in a hurry to eat and catch the bus for their next destination. But also, this is indicative that you might be able to negotiate a better rate for your own party!
The hotel has several floors and 163 rooms. The common areas are very nice, with a large lounge and bar, a gift shop, and a charming small restaurant. The rooms are very comfortable. We had air conditioning, a balcony, well stocked mini bar, and a comfortable sitting area.
While the hotel is not exactly in the City Centre, it's only about a 15 minute walk to Ponte Vecchio. And the walk is along the river and past several nice shops and restaurants.
Unique Quality: The bathrooms in this hotel are the best I've had in Europe. A separate bath and shower, the all marble room is spotlessly clean (and slippery). Nice amenities come with your room.
