Firenze video on VT- What is the name of the backround music?

by sararosa

To My fellow VTer's gigi45 had posted a video of Firenze with beautiful backround music in the Florence video section of VT. Does anyone know the title to the music? I am the second person to ask the question- without an answer. Great photography too!

It's a version of 'O Fortuna' from 'Carmina Burana' by Carl Orff. Not sure which version, but here's another one (more like the original):

Wonderful stuff.

Leics that was just lovely! Thanks for sharing it. Am forwarding onward to all of my friends.

One of my favourites.

Has been for years..it's an oldish piece (1930s).

Interesting about the texts on which the music is based:

as well as the music itself:

I like that piece too. I even have a funny story about it from when I was living in the tropics.

Thanks for sharing.

The history is interesting indeed, but the major beauty of the Youtube link you posted was the marvelous photography that was used to 'illustrate' the music. I enjoyed the music itself so much that I also listened to 3 other versions on the same page. None of them compared with the imagination and the poetry of the first with the racing clouds. My opinion only of course.

So Mariel? Are you gong to leave us hanging?
What is the funny story?!?

Re: Firenze video on VT- What is the name of the backround music?

Hehehehe, well. I had this co-worker that was a bit of a snob because his family was well to do by Dominican standards (they had money, connections in the military, American visa, etc.) so he was always talking about more refined than the average joe, as if he knew what he was talking about.

One day, he started playing O Fortuna but the file he had was VERY low at the beginning, so he put on his head phones and cranked up the volume. Nothing happened until the part of the song located at 1:50 on Leics' link, when he jumped as if he had seen a ghost or something similar. All of us at our office could hear the rest of the aria and we were laughing in his face.

Well, maybe it's funnier in my head =D

Last year we had a TV-show called "Körslaget" (The battle of the choirs) and this is another version they did: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-81pmO-JyQQ (the song starts at 1:11). That performance gave me goosebumps.

Loved that story. Reminded me of a similar type siutation when I played 1492 (Vangelis) for someone...

That version of the choral group was also a good one. I can see why you got goose bumps. They were very dramatic indeed.

Thank you to everyone that responded. VT'ers are the best! Love the snob story, Class has nothing to do with money, but more of how one treats/respects others around them. I can't wait to get on u-tube. Sararosa

Travel Tips for Florence

INTERNET

by mariocibelli

There are so many internet cafes in Florence, maybe 100 in the city center.

There is a chain of internet points called INTERNET TRAIN, they are located all over Italy and have a very high standard of service. To see all their locations check out their website:

Always say you are a student to get the lower rate, if you are not of the student 'profile' ie age, tell them you are studying at one of the language schools (ABC, Lorenzo di Medici) or at an ART School (Palazzo Spinelli).

see Florence's most famous bridge, the Ponte Vecchio.

I was told that towards the close of the Second World War, the German army general occupying the city refused to destroy Florence’s oldest and most recognizable bridge even though he had been pressured to do so! Good for him! The Ponte Vecchio is basically a pedestrian-only thoroughfare lined with many expensive jewelry and leather shops. I personally found most of the things here very expensive... yeah, including the souvenirs! :-(

I highly suggest taking daytrips to see the rest of Tuscany. It is beautiful and much less crowded than Florence. I like Chianti for its lushness and all the wineries. It's great to go winetasting. The vinters were all very friendly and accomodating and you could feel that they loved that they did and they were happy to share that with you.

Trendy Cafe Bar

by MarvintheMartian about Caffe Megara

Good astmosphere and good prices.
Seems like a busy place with a wide range of people from young and trendy to the very smart looking!
Newspapers are around the cafe from many countries.
Look out for the aeroplane hanging from the ceiling.
I visited late afternoon, but it looks like a good place to hang out for a while.
I don't know opening hours - may not open that late! It's only a small cafe/bar, so casual dress!

Have lunch with the locals at Enoteca Verdi

by MissThing606 about Enoteca Verdi

If you want a nice cheap tuscan style lunch, there is an enoteca on Via Giussepe Verdi.

They serve good heary tuscan food. They have starters such as crostini, sun-dried tomtatoes, olives, aubergines etc. The meats include chicken, fish and sliced meats. typically, they have lots of greens such as spinach, broccoli and peppers.

You pick your food at the counter, they heat it up while wait, then you take it to the tables in the back. You seldom see tourists there. At starter, main meal and water came to about 7 Euros. The food just tastes amazing, they only light season with salt so it's not overloaded with spices. It's nice and filling too. My favourites are the spinach and the chicken. My friends absolutely loves the crostini
