Have a look at the Vtpages for things to do/restaurants etc..all are written by VT members.

Chances are anyone who replies to this thread will have his/her own Florence VTpage.

What you 'must-see' will depend entirely on your preferences. Most people want to visit the Accadamia and Uffizi...but I'd advise you to book tickets in advance online if you do, to save wasting time in queues.

Official site here: http://www.firenzemusei.it/

For me, must-sees include the Duomo, Baptistery and Campanile, as many other ancient churches as I can possibly get into, the Ponte Vecchio, wandering the streets and looking at the architecture, visiting the market around Piazza San Lorenzo, being at San Miniato al Monte for 5pm when the monks sing plainsong around the shrine of St Miniato as they have doneon the same spot for over 1000 years, taking the bus up to Fiesole for fantastic views across the city......

And must-dos include eating as much gelato as I can, from as many different gelateria as possible.

Restaurants? You will be spoiled for choice! I really enjoyed my meal at Trattoria Za'Za in P. S. Lorenzo (you may need to book for evenings). Details on my page. And don't miss trying the gelato at Vivoli, on the tiny Via Isole delle Stinche off Via Ghibellina in the Bargello area. Superb!

Everywhere you go in Florence (and Italy) you will see very cute little cars!!

And not only are they cute, they are sensible too - particularly in a city like Florence that has narrow streets and limited parking - the smaller the car the easier your day to day motoring is.

Now, just make sure you don't do too much shopping though....

Petrified woman

by fgfi

This is a head of a woman that comes out from the stones of the walls of the church of Santa Maria Maggiore, visible while walking along Via Cerretani. The legend says that during September 1327 guards went there bringing in chain Cecco d'Ascoli, a necromancer the Inquisition wanted to judge for heresy in Piazza Santa Croce. A woman appeared at the window of the church and railed at the sorcerer who reacted and petrified her. In reality the statue is probably what is left of a temple of the Roman period and Francesco Stabili (1269-1327 - known as Cecco d'Ascoli) was a clever man of science, little understood by his contemporaries and condemned by the Inquisition.

Quaint pub in SMN

by kcochran111 about Joshua Tree

My good friends who own the Joshua Tree Pub just celebrated its 10th Anniversary in Nov. 07. Stop in to have a pint and wish them a warm 'Auguri!' from me. Very casual, frequented by all types (from Italian punk-rock youth to older travelers from all countries).

Popular with the locals; very good roasted chicken

by katezr about Trattoria Ruggero

Excellent service, family friendly. I see both locals and foreigners there, but my suspicion is that the foreigners may be mostly people who live in Florence, though I'm sure some are tourists whom the place was recommended to. We love the pollo arosto con patate (roasted chicken with potatos) every time we have it, though their menu changes and they don't always offer it. This may be a better place for meat-lovers than vegetarians, though they have some good vegetable side dishes.
