Holiday Inn
Nowadays, when old Cliffie travels with all the little Clavens in tow, he tends to favour Holiday Inns. The group has two hotels in Florence, and on his last visit old Cliffie stayed at the Holiday Inn Florence South. It's 15 minutes from the city centre but there is a frequent bus service from a stop across the road. In summer the hotel has an outdoor pool.

At the country side
I was staying in Figline, that's a small city in the Tuscanvalley. There were perfect train connections to Firenze so the distance was now problem. The hotel itself was small but situated on the marketsquare, the best feature though was the cook who made wonderfull diners. All accompanied by good Tuscan wine it was wonderfull.
I have no idea but i am sure that it is much cheaper then staying in Firenze. Even with the extra money you have to spend on the train.

This is a real gem of a place...
This is a real gem of a place - strictly for WOMEN only. Yes, this cool B&B is a newly opened, exclusive bed and breakfast joint for women only located at the top floor (sorry... no lift - and you have to climb up at least 68 steps) of a historical palace in the center of Florence! With a stunning view of Brunelleschi's cupola of the Duomo, it overlooks a quiet inner garden and is only minutes away from the Uffizi, Ponte Vecchio, Santa Croce, the Accademia, the main train station and air terminal.
It has only four double rooms all overlooking the garden... three with a view of the Duomo. There are two bathrooms and two rooms have washing facilities as well.
Prices per night: Single Lit. 90000. Double Lit. 140000/150000.
I don't know about you but I'm DELIGHTED I found this place. I'm going to stay here on my next visit to Florence.

We stayed at a 4-star...
We stayed at a 4-star off-the-beaten-track (if you catch my drift!) hotel - The Rafaello - a cosy and quaint/ small establishment here in Firenze.
It even boasts of a mini-shopping arcade in its huge premises with some shops opening as early as 8.00AM (yawn!) and closing at 9.30PM!!! For the siesta-crazy Italians, this is a record! In summer, the hotel opens up its huge patio for its guest to soak in the sunshine whilst sipping a cup of capuccino!! I'd be posting pics of this hotel sooon! Watch out for it..... ;-)

Because it is to expensive in Florence we always go to Prato (10 km)
Lasr tima we chose for the 'flora' hotel in the center of Prato

Unique Quality: simple and normal italian hotel with a good accomodation

I was staying in a rented apartment arranged by my school, together with a few other foreign students. It was located in a narrow street close to the Santa Maria Novella train station, and right next to a disco!! Imagine that!
The apartment had a kitchen a little terrace overlooking into the terrace of the next building. We cooked nearly every night, it's cheaper!

Hotel Villa Aurora: Hotel Villa Aurora
About $140.00 USD
Unique Quality: It's a little on the expensive side but then all of Florence is. Situated in the mountains surrounding Florence, Fiesola is a lovely little town to wander around in, stop for a drink at one of the many sidewalk cafes, or eat in the fabulous Aurora restaurant overlooking the city of Florence. A few rooms have a view with a great little wrought iron balcony. Very romantic. Be sure to ask for non-smoking if you really want it.

Most hotels are very...
Most hotels are very expensive, and during holiday weekends or peak travel season (May-September), it can be quite hard to get a room. Instead, at the train station, you will find many people who will rent you a room at their house for around $25/night. These are the best deals in town.

Locanda Orchidea, a pensionne...
Locanda Orchidea, a pensionne (like a boarding house) in the Old City was where I stayed. There are some pluses and some drawbacks. It is slightly more expensive than a hostel ($33 USD for a single), but you have your own comfortable, cozy and clean room. It is convenient for sightseeing being in the Old City very close to the Duomo in a palazzo that Dante's wife was born in. The owner's are very helpful. However, ask for an inner room or bring earplugs because the street noise is pervasive and almost non-stop.
