Train station locations

by doubldc

I have searched high and low to find a map that shows the train station locations.

I will be traveling from Venice to Florence via train. Is there more than one station in Florence that is a stop? I plan to rent a car and drive to the Siena area and see the countryside for a couple of days then return the car to Florence. The address of Avis is

via Borg Ognissanti 128R

Which train station is that near and would this be the destination for the train ticket as well?

Dazed and confused

Any help

There are other stations in Florence, but you need the main station in Florence, Firenze Santa Maria Novella, which usually appears as Firenze SMN. From there, Borgo Ognissanti is about a 10 minute walk towards the river. You can easily view all of this on Google earth to get an idea of the layout. I'm sorry, I don't know exactly where #128R is.

thank you very much.

If you use the mapping software at, this should be pretty apparent.

1. Go to .
2. On the left under 'Maps', enter Italy and via Borgo Ognissanti 128 and Florence.
3. It will show a window on the left, stating that it doesn't know where this address is, and please pick an address. Choose the second one - Borgo Ognissanti 117.
4. Close the big white box in the center that says Borgo Ognissanti 117. Note that under the blue circle with the three short lines coming out (your target), are the numbers 124 and 126, so I don't know why the software had a problem with 128...ah, no matter, you're in the right spot.
5. On the right hand side is a bar with a '+' and a '-' sign to zoom in and out. Click on the minus sign to zoom out. You will see 'Florence Santa Maria Novella' and various symbols for a train station up and to the right of your target address, thus confirming that dnw's info was right fact, it may not even be a 10 minute walk...

I don't use Google that much, but if it's using a satellite (photo) map, I think the street map may be easier to follow...your choice...

Actually, out of curiosity I went back to Google Earth and found a satellite photo of the exact address. It's really just a few blocks from Firenze SMN.

Travel Tips for Florence

Duomo --> Santa Maria del Fiore

by KiNyA

Duomo, the cathedral, is one of the most magnificent buildings in Florence. It has got enormous dome. Its sheer size was typical of Florentine determination to lead in all things. Of course the most famous are the Baptistry, the Campanile, the Dome, and of course the astonished Neo-Gothic front facade.

Kayaking in the river

by ophiro

When i went to my Italy trip my boss in those times was a nice person that lives a few years in Italy (Venice) and he loved kayaking and he was also a rower or whatever they called a man who row a kayak.

so... when i was near the ponte vecchio , the old bridge i saw a kayak on the river and i tought i must take pictures of the kayak for him.
Looks like a very relaxing sport.

Yes , its LV or Lousi Vuitton oppss ..its the Louis Vuitton actually ...and along a 30 metres stretch of small street , you see like 10 stalls selling them ...all sprawled on the floor if next time anybody in VT is looking for fake LVs etc etc perhaps we can tell them ....after all getting a bag in Florence means ...phew !

Daytrips to Siena and San Gimignano.

by Maurizioago

If you like to go to Siena or San Gimignano you have to take a bus at the SITA bus station. This is situated in via Santa Caterina da Siena; it is around 100 meters from Santa Maria Novella train station.

There are various buses to Siena every day. The jouney should takes one hour to one hour and half to get there. Ask for a "linea RAPIDA" bus. These buses are faster than the ordinary ones.

As far as I know there aren't any direct buses to San Gimignano. I had to take a bus to Poggibonsi. From there I took another bus to San Gimignano.

Excellent - panini and coffee for 5 euro!

by Larinka about Caffe Mokarico

Self-service cafes offer fast breakfasts and lunches without the hidden costs and surcharges of other outlets in Italy. This cafe was right in the centre of the tourist trap, on the Piazza Del Duomo, but offered decent coffee for 1 euro! I had a generous prosciutto panini for 4 euros and my partner and I shared a 7 euro salad. Also on offer were some tasty looking ice creams and fruit salads.
I went back another day and had lasagne and salad. You cant expect the best lasagne in Italy for these prices but it was fine as a snack.
