In Sep 2007 we spent a week in Italy with my parents, and we stayed in Florence for just one night. We wanted to stay somewhere fairly central, and close to both the train station and the place where we were picking up a hire car the next day.
Hotel Montreal fit the bill nicely - just a couple of minutes walk from both the station and the Europcar office, and only about 10 minutes walk to the Duomo. It is only a one star hotel, but was completely fine for our short stay, and at 88 euro for a double room (Sep 2007) was good value for its convenient location.
We arrived in the morning and only one of our rooms was ready for us. My parents took that one, and we left our suitcases there until later in the day. Their room was spacious, with high ceilings and we were impressed by the size based on the price. However, when we checked into our room later on, we found it to be half the size of the other room. Oh well, it was more like the type of room we were expecting, and as we were only there for one night it didn't matter.
Unique Quality: Both rooms were clean, and had small bathrooms and televisions. Breakfast wasn't included in the room price, but at 4 euro it wasn't too bad a price as it was buffet style, though just the usual Italian breakfast offerings.
