Florence to Elba island

by Petermurt

Hi, I will be in Florence in May and just wondering how long does it take to get to Elba island from Florence? Also roughly how hot will it be in May?

Hi! It depends on kind f transportation are you gonna use. By car it could take about 2 hours driving to Piombino, where you'll catch the ferry and after 1 hour you will be on the island. I don't actually know about public transportation so I can't help you in this way, but it seems to be a lot longer.
In may the weather is usually good in Tuscany, not too warm and dry. It's a great time to visit the area and Elba island as well.
Enjoy your time. Roberto

Travel Tips for Florence

Museo dell' Opera del Duomo

by meteorologist1

Here at the Museo dell' Opera del Duomo (located very close to the Duomo) you can see some amazing sculptures by famous artists, including Michelangelo's late Pieta. This museum also has some amazing church-related sculptures. This museum is definitely worth a visit.

Hike the Hills Surrounding the City

by Lhenne1

For the most fantastic views of Florence, go up. Cross the Arno River and start hiking. You can head up to the Piazzelle Michaelangelo, or just climb. From the tall points you can view the city center, the Medieval city wall and the Tuscan countryside.

Good leather gloves

by MissThing606 about Leather

Luciano's sells leather goods in all varieties. They have a range of sizes, deisgns and colours. you can also choose the type of lining you want e.g. unlined, silk or cashmere. (silk is good for most weayher conditions, althought cashmere is nice for really cold climates.) expect to pay from 20-50 euros depending on the length and lining

I came to Florence by train,...

by travelmad478

I came to Florence by train, all the way from Prague. It was a nice ride, but be prepared for the speed of the trains to slow markedly as soon as you cross the border into Italy! The schedules are more like suggestions than fixed times.
Florence is easy to walk around. We used the Streetwise Florence map and were amazed to find that the streets were packed together, the map seemed to be printed 'actual size'! What we thought would be a five-minute walk was more like five steps!

Great Atmosphere and Location!

by PolyAna about Trattoria Za Za

The food is great, but the location is better. The restaurant is located in apiazza that overlooks an area of heavy foot-traffic. you should get a table outside, enjoy the Negroni( Italian Martini--very strong beware), have the yummy pasta dishes( i tried a liver dish that was delish), and watch the crowds roam around Firenze. The steak and liver dishes are delicious.
