Rape of Sabine
by littlesam1
Florence is a city of art. That is the only way to descibe it. There are sculptures and statues everywhere. Here is a replica of one of my favorite sculptures, The Rape of Sabine. The original is in the Galleria Della Accademia. There is a no photography rule at the gallery. This statue fascinated me. Out of one piece of stone three very detailed individuals were created. And there is such a story in just this one statue. There is the older man being defeated by the younger man who is raping the Sabine woman. With just a piece of stone such drama was created. This replica is found just outside of the Vecchio Palace.
Short bike trip

I took a 4 hour bike tour with a small company that was located just before you cross the Ponte Vecchio. Tour was a 4 hour ride starting on the left bank side of the Ponte Veccho and riding up to Piazzale Michaelangelo and through the nearby hills. We stopped for about 1/2 hour to have some fresh bread, cheese and wine. My tour had about 8 people in it - all were 35 years of age or younger. Modern bikes and helmuts provided.
Fragrance
by Bonnie28 about Farmacia Santa Maria Nouvella
Converted from an old church, this farmacia is described by many travellers as "the most fragrant place" in the world. If you have read "Hannibal" or watched the movie, it's where Dr Hannibal bought Clarice the beautiful soaps.
The place itself is charming ; its products are beautiful and widely-ranged: from pot-pourri to perfume, soaps to essential oils. It is a wonderful experience just to be there. The pot-pourri and soaps make great souvenirs for friends. The perfumes or fragrant products are just beautiful and unique. Quite reasonable.
By Train: Stazione di Santa Maria Novella

Italy has an excellent train network. The railway station is in the city centre, from it, the most important sights of Florence are very close, and one of the Tourism Offices is in front of it, just crossing Piazza della Stazione.

At our hotel we got very lucky with a concierge who had a great taste in food. This was her favorite restaurant and when she described the place and food to us we just could not say no to it.
Walking through small labyrinth like streets we finally came out to a small plaza where the restaurant was located. Luckily for us we had reservation made by a hotel, otherwise they were completely full.
Even though this is supposedly one of the best restaurants in Florence, there was nothing pretensions about it, and the atmosphere felt very relaxing.
Don't get me started on the food, because everything we had was fantastic, unfortunately I barely remember anything other then everything was excellent, because we ordered 1 L of house wine and everything just blended in.
This was our thanksgiving celebration in Florence and none of the dishes we ordered had turkey in it becasue there are better things like rabbit, veal, fish, etc I had one of the best cheesecakes there ever, since cheesecakes did originate from Italy they sure know how to make it right. Nothing better then just plain ricotta cake and it will do the trick.
