It is a strange place to stay, but i differ totally with previous reviewer. Its a charitable institution which houses homeless people during the winter, and rents to travellers in Summer very cheaply I might add. Accommodation is in prefabricated dorms, a bit weird, but perfectly clean and comfortable, and with lockers. Also single sex which for me is a plus. It is all housed in an old mediaeval hospital/palazzo, which in itself is interesting, and it is in the oltrano, which is over the river in Florence, and a very interesting area. Its adjoining the Chiesa Santa Maria del Carmine, which houses the Branacci Chapel, and the wonderful 15th century Massaccio frescos of Adam and Eve being expelled from the Garden of Eden. The young people who run the Ospitale are very pleasant indeed, and will help with local information.
