    Best Florence Hotel

    by

This is by far one of the best hotels in Italy. The suite rooms (Giove and Cerere) are just magnificent. All rooms have balconies but the suite rooms over look rooftops and gardens. The breakfasts are definitely ample and the service is great. There is even a spa on the ground floor of the building.

Only one thing that may not be advisable for the elderly is that you have to climb many stairs to get into the hotel. They do not have a luggage service or elevator. This is an historic building so they are not permitted to have an elevator.

In September of this year I will be staying there for the third time. I highly recommend this hotel.

Unique Quality: The suite rooms have magnificent frescos on the walls and the ceiling are just beautiful. You really feel like you are in a palazzo.

Directions: Not far from the duomo.

Agriturismos

by fsacontact

Are there any agriturismos close to Florence? My husband and are from South Africa and will be visiting Italy in December for three weeks.

Also are there places in Florence where they have latin and tango dancing?

There are hundreds of them "near" Florence - just depends how near you want to be. Check the list at: http://www.bella-toscana.com/lodgings_near_florence.htm

I'd suggest to rent a house instead of an agriturismo, it could be much cheaper and independent, especially if you get it in Siena, Arezzo or Pistoia:
visit www.summerinitaly.com or www.interhome.com to get more information

there's a famous "milonga" tango club in Florence: http://ita.tango.info/salons/ITFLR

this is a good portal with precious suggestions about tango events and clubs in Tuscany: http://www.tangoitalia.com/tango/florence.html

Hope it helps!

Enjoy Italy,

Ciao :-)

Travel Tips for Florence

Colazione

by m-joy

It's not usual to have a continental breakfast in Italy, they prefer a fast breakfast with a caffe at the bar. I can definitely recommend the caffelatte instead and especially the croissant-crema. That's a perfect sweet starter for a good day in Florence.

Packing List

Study Abroad I just wanted to mention that if you want to get this type of view of the Florence Duomo, go to the Palazzo Vecchio, all the way to the top, day or nightime (before 10 p.m.) and it is an incredible view!

Quality Leather Goods - Oh You'll Pay for it Too!

by Hopkid about Leather at La Scuola del Cuoio

The Scuola del Cuoio makes top quality leather goods in the tradition of the monks that started the trade at the Basilica di Santa Croce. They now make goods for sale to the public. Everything from jackets and wallets to boxes and key chains. You can also watch the artisans at work and they will also personalize your purchases with gold leaf lettering for an additional fee. You know what you're getting when you purchase something here, unlike out at the stalls around the Basilica di San Lorenzo. Leather goods Anywhere from 10 to 1000 Euro depending on what you purchase

train

by tompt

Florence has a good trainstation. It is called Stazione Santa Maria Novella. Trains leave to the major italian cities here, but also the Eurostar to other European cities.

To buy a ticket is very easy, there are automatic ticketmachines which have english language on them. You can pay with your creditcard at these machines. Don´t forget to validate the ticket by stamping it, in the machine, or near the track.

A hidden restaurant.

by Maurizioago about La Falterona.

This restaurant takes its name from a mountain. I spotted it by chance, because it is hidden in a backstreet.

It is a quite chic restaurant, but their prices are affordable in my opinion.

I was given a small aperitivo and a couple of appetizers before my dinner. These were included in the price.

There is a big choice of dishes on their menu. Pasta with aubergines was very good. The second time I went to that restaurant I had meat and vegetables. I don't remember the name of this dish. This was very good too.
