I would be happy to stay at this hotel on my next trip to Florence. Hotel Palazzo Vecchio di Firenze has a real European flavor—gleaming wooden floors, wonderful high ceilings, luxurious drapery, etc. Our room featured only a shower, but it was a good one, and the room was certainly larger than average for Italy. Rumor has it that the superior rooms also have fabulous tubs in marble-edged bathrooms, and some of the rooms enjoyed a little balcony. Add to this the fact that the management was super-nice, and you have a perfect, little hotel for what appears to be an amazingly reasonable price.
Unique Quality: "The rooms in Hotel Palazzo Vecchio di Firenze," according to the hotel's website,"are in the wing of an elegant building from the 1920's in a typical Florentine architectural style with a light facade divided by gray stone molding outlining the interior structure. An atmosphere of lively Tuscan tradition can be felt in the lobby and other public rooms, underlined by the furniture and floors inspired by the designs of the age-old working of precious stones and marble, beautiful examples of which are housed in the Mediceo Opificio delle Pietre Dure. The breakfast room is large and bright: a continental breakfast buffet is offered, to meet the needs of the Italian and international guests who are staying in Florence for business or pleasure."
Directions: If you arrive via the Santa Maria Novella railway station, you are in luck as the Santa Maria Novella is within walking distance if you aren't carrying too much luggage.
