Schizophrenic Hotel
As you can see from the first picture this is not a good looking hotel from the outside. Someone back in the 60s thought it would be a great idea to put on a modern facade - this was actually a very poor idea. The second picture shows you what the hotel looked like when it was built in 1925.
But inside this is the sort of hotel I just love so much. Quaint staircases and corridors, polished wooden floors, so much character.
We really lucked out with this hotel. We got it for 65 euro a night plus breakfast on wotif.com. The rack rate is something like 340. I would have felt disappointed if we had paid 340 for sure. It is a little shabby and lack lustre.
BUT - not only did we luck out with price - we lucked out when we got a bigger corner room, with a balcony onto a side street (for the smoker) and two bathrooms. Two! One with a shower, toilet, bidet, basin and one with a bath etc etc. Big fluffy towels. But the water did run very slowly and was not as hot as it might have been.
We had a large couch for lying on, 2 comfy chairs and cable TV. We were so comfortable.
Breakfast was fine - the usual - plus you could make toast and they supplied plates of meats and cheese and hard boiled eggs.
One internet computer in the foyer - 5 euro an hour.
They have a piano bar which is supposed to stay open until 1pm - but I never saw a customer in it and the night I went to try it out at 11pm it was closed. Maybe the joint is jumping in the high season.
If you can get it for under 100 euro I would highly recommend this hotel.

The Best Experience
Unique Quality: The hotel, in a very central position, is surrounded by the most evocative historical Florence. Because of this there is a great demand of stays for the cultural tourism that the Tuscan chief town offers as a medieval town and cradle of the art.
From the hotel you can reach any place with a brief walk: from the museums to the most important squares and monuments, from the local markets to the Florentine handicraft shops, from the most famous brands in the luxurious shops to the historical cafés of the city. Besides the Majestic Hotel is the ideal base to visit the other historical cities of Tuscany which are reachable in more or less one hour drive, being Florence at the centre of the region. Moreover, still by logistic motives, the hotel is selected in a preferential way by the business men for their business stays. In fact, the Florence airport is just 20 minutes from the hotel and the porters can welcome at the station the guests that are arriving by train and bring them directly to the hotel. There is large garage that guarantee the parking for each guest.
Just a hundred of meters separates the hotel from the Congress Centre and the Exhibition Complex.
Very refined and appreciated is the Michelangelo’s Restaurant, which is located at the first floor, where you can taste the best Tuscan cuisine.

Avoid This Hotel, Anything But Grand
This hotel was part of our 13 day Globus Coach tour and as we left Pisa our tour director informed us that our hotel was a little old and due for maintenance. We thought nothing of it after the 5 star accommodation provided in Rome. On arrival we immediately knew what to expect, it looked as though nothing had been spent on reception since 1960, usually the bad hotels have a reasonable reception.
Our room was old style but the bed was OK, however venturing into the bathroom was a shock, mold was everywhere over the bath/shower, my wife was shocked. We complained to management and were moved to another room for the second night, still not much better, plenty of mold in shower/bath.
As for breakfast they had facilities for 40 persons, however there were 150 people lining up for breakfast, standing room only, empty plates on the buffet, we were glad to get out of there. The only favourable thing being it was well located close to city centre.
Unique Quality: None, I suppose there is one, it is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in.
