Great pensione in the heart of Florence

We lucked into this place. Our Lonely Planet guidebook recommended it, but I had already grown wary of the accuracy of LP's recommendations. We checked it out anyway since it was located in the dead center of town. Turns out they were right. The hotel occupies one floor of a rather historic building and has perhaps ten rooms. Two very well equipped bathrooms in the center are shared by the dozen or so guests. The rooms are quite spacious with basic but comfortable amenites, especially the bed (very comfy by Euro standards). There is a large sink and mirror in the room which is convenient - nice not to have to run through the hall just to brush your teeth or shave. Our room (# 9?) also had three sets of windows and a decent view out of one.

One of the best things about this place is its host, Evelyn. She is a charming and gracious woman from Wales who runs the pension day in day out. She is very thorough, helpful, and even gets to know her guests on a first name basis, very surprising. We paid exactly 70 euros for our double room.

Unique Quality: Central location, museum-like decor in common areas, spacious and comfy rooms, very nice bathrooms, friendly hostess.
