Hy,
Avoid taxy: it's very expensive. In the evening there are trains to Florence every 30 minutes, fare 3.60€, travel time around 50 minutes.
Timetables here: http://www.ferroviedellostato.it/homepage_en.html
Ciao, Marco

Trains run frequently between Montecatini and Florence. The last train from Florence to Montecatini is at about 2200 so you can stay in Florence for the evening. Check the trains website at www.trenitalia.com

I don't know your plans and your tastes, but if I would spend the days in Florence and the evenings in Montecatini. It is a nice thermal resort with many restaurants, cafes, clubs.

Actually, the last time I went to Florence, I didn't have hotel reservations in advance, and we were surprised to find that the town was literally sold out (there was a huge fashion convention).

Since we didn't have a car, the housing desk at the main train station put us in Montecatini, because as a spa area, there are many many hotels, and the trip really is as the others described - walk from the hotel to the train station in Montecatini (www.viamichelin.com says it's about 1.3 kilometers), buy a ticket and take the next train east, arrive right in the center of Florence (at Santa Maria Novella train station).

The only real downer is that the walk at night from the train station back to your hotel is probably uphill :-(...

I know you all who want to visit Florence are interested in knowing where is this Internet Shop. It is not far from the Main Railway Station. It is just around 5 mins walk from Station. For knowing the exact street please click on the photo and read the name written on it. The Speed was good and it was not so expensive.

TOUR GROUPS: PLEASE WALK IN TWOS

by ForestqueenNYC

If you think the Florentines are rude and unpleasant, it could be because they have been run out of their own town by the tour groups. Those little ladies, who hold their umbrellas up in the air and walk like drill sargeants while leading their huge groups through the narrow streets, have no one to blame but themselves.

Living in Florence and Siena made me acutely aware of the inconsideration of these groups. They walk from one side of the street to the other leaving no room for one to pass and expecting everyone else to get out of their way. My Italian language teacher told our class that once, when she said something to them as she tried to pass, they commented back that it was because of their tourist money that Florence was still thriving. True or not, it is no excuse for lack of consideration for your hosts.

Spend time on those old towns...

Spend time on those old towns near Florence such as Siena and Pisa. The former can be reached by bus(station behind the train station)within one & a half hour and the latter can be reached by train within two hours.

Best club on Monday nights (non-summer)

by Fritzanity about Yab

Great dance club, decent cover charge but well worht it. Full of Italians, travelers, and of course study abroad kids. Very fashionable, huge dance floor, hot djs (hip hop night- was Monday last season- is usually best). Go for assured good time- applies to all!
PS. I've heard it closes in summer so don't go June-August. Hip-hop keeps the code pretty mellow.
