Loved the View from our Window
It was a bit strange to have to coordinate pickup time of keys with the owner. But since this is a small hotel/B&B it makes sense. Overally I really liked staying here. It is close to everything you would want to see in Florence... or close enough for our purposes. Using the keys to the different gates/lift/etc. was a bit daunting, but not that unusual for places we stayed close to the south of Italy.

Travel from Pisa to Florence
I'm flying into Pisa on ThomsonFly in September - what's the best way to get to Florence - I know you can get the train, but I see that there is also a direct coach service.
Any recommendations of good 3* or 4* hotels - I want something with character and individuality - not a bland international hotel.

There's a link on the Thomsonfly website to the Terravision coach. I used their service from Ciampino to Rome and it's fine, less hassle than negotiating a strange rail route with baggage and you get to see some of the scenery too. I think it's 16.50 euros return from Pisa to Florence.

If you are going directly from Pisa Airport to Florence, you can catch the train from the Airport all the way in to Florence. If you just got off a plane, you might prefer the train to a coach because you have much more leg room and the chance to get up and walk around.

I stayed at San Frediano Mansion (they are on the web). Rooms were massive, spottless, beds were comfortable, street was NOISY (we slept with earplugs), staff were friendly, breakfast of expresso and pastries was included. Our room had a painted ceiling, private ensuite bathroom (be specific that you want a private bathroom inside your quarters - ie NOT down the hall for your use only.
I thought the room was expensive, but this is Florence, and any room is a good room if its not booked out.
