Horse Riding Day Trip

by nalahacjr

Hello to all -

My wife and I will be visiting the Tuscan countryside in early July. We are camping for a few nights in Barberino Val d'Elsa. She loves horses and I would like to take her on a horse riding day trip in Tuscany. We are renting a car and visiting some of the hills towns and beautiful countryside for 2 days, so I don't want an extended horse riding trek, just a a day trip. I was wondering if anyone knew of some around the Barberino Val d'Elsa area? We aren't planning on renting the car for the day we are doing the horse trip, so I would prefer something somewhat closer to the campground (maybe like a 10-15km radius), but we can take bus/train to get there, no problem. Any advice or recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

Also, for our 2 days of traveling in the car, if you have some "can't miss - must see" towns, drives, or spots I would love to hear that as well. Thank you so much!!

- Ryan

You will love the Barberino Val d'Elsa area. It's gorgeous. If you get up to Greve-in-Chianti, you might enjoy lunch at Bottega del Moro near the church. It's not on the main square. If you face the church, there is a road going left. Take it and cross the main route (S222) and you'll see another small square. The restaurant is small and on the south side of the little square.

For horseback riding try contacting www.firenzeturismo.it

or FITETREC ANTE Regione Toscana, Via Collina, 39 - 50020 Montefiridolfi (FI), tel. 0558244293, fax 0558244507, cell. 3382912430, info@fitetrecantetoscana.it http://fitetrecantetoscana.it.

This may be some help. There are agriturismi in the area with horseback riding but don't know if you would be expected to stay there or not. The above web sites should be more help.

Enjoy your trip.

Travel Tips for Florence

Piazzas

by Srechko

Piazzas in Italy are centres of all the happenings. Same was in Florence, and there are more and less touristy piazzas there. Obviously the most impressive one is piazza del Duomo where the duomo cathedral with its amazing dome is located. Most attractive and the largest one however is probably Piazza Della Signoria where the Seat of Florence government is located as well as several publicly exposed sculptures. Most attention get copies of Michelangelo's David and Neptun fountain.

let's not forget their wonderful
doors with these unique door knockers :-) i love them! I actually took a roll just of doors and knockers when i was in firenze! they are lovely and unique!
The best way to capture them is with black & white film and I recommend Ilford Delta 100.

nice place

by PetraG

This nice little place is located just next to the train station. I don't know neither it's name nor the name of the beautiful little church, but I'm sure you can find it easily and admire it's beauty.

Expensive ... but fun

by zemra406 about The Yab

You don't end up paying for stuff until you leave, drinks included ... but still a fun place to go with great music. There is a smaller room for hip-hop/rap if the mainstream music gets boring. Dress up for this place ...

Great new restaurant in Florence!

by MitchJackson about Eccoci!

Forget the tourist traps around the duomo, if you are looking for real Italian food at a reasonable price, look no further than this gem.
They have lots of dishes with both classic and unusual recipes, and you can try many different ones since they have a selection of small portions; for those who prefer a more traditional meal, they serve pasta and soups as well.
Considering we’re talking about Italy, I was also very impressed with the service: even though the menu we were given was in English, the young owner still came to our table and explained and recommended us, than the order was taken by a stunning (but professional!) waitress. Everyone was always smiling and they all speak good English.
No wonder on our visit the place was packed with trendy Italian thirtysomethings cestino di gamberi piccanti
stir-fried prawns served in a basket of lightly fried potatoes, with raw vegetables on the side
