Looking for short term (private) accomodation in Florence

by Anna_NL

I am coming for 3-4 days to Florence in the interval 28th June-2nd of July 2009. Do you maybe have an extra bed or a room in your apartment that I could rent? I know that it is not regular question, but the hotels are expensive regarding single rooms.

If you are interested, room exchage is also possible. My room in Amsterdam will be availabe until 2nd of July.

Best regards from Amsterdam,

Hi Anna. I think you may find that you will get very few if any, offers for you to stay in someone's home without letting the would be hosts know something about you. Why don't you fill out the details on your homepage, that way, you will be less of a stranger.

Travel Tips for Florence

Palazzo Davanzati

by croisbeauty

Palazzo Davanzati is an typical Fiorentine styled medieval four or five storied haus with severe brick or stone facade and numerous windows. It almost look like an fortress or defending tower. Most of this houses have built in gallery on its rooftop where people used to spend, searching for refreshment, time in the hot summer days. In particularly hot nights it used to serve as a badroom too.

I saw two gypsy women in Firenze begging. I had taken this woman's photo - she was munching on a dry bun and the birds were pecking at the crumbs - so I gave her some of the crumbs from my purse. She started the whining and demanding so I just walked away.
After Roma, when I nearly started lashing out as 15 umbrella sellers importuned me from all sides and a red headed begger from the south asked for a cigarette - I found Firenze quite peaceful.
It wasn't until Sunday - the big day for the market - that I saw any African bag sellers. They set up on sheets in front of the Duomo. I don't know where they are the rest of the time.

Quattro Coronati

by leics

Orsanmichele has 14 niches on its exterior, each containing a statue. The statue of St Philip and the Quattro Coronati is particularly interesting, as the four men depicted with the saint were Christian stonemasons. They were executed by the Roman Emperor Diocletion for refusing to carve a pagan statue, in a rather unpleasant having iron crowns forced onto their heads. They were the patron saints of the masons' guild, whose niche this was, and their are reliefs of sculptors and masons at work beneath the statues (by Nanni di Banco).

On the Via Orsanmichele side of the church.

One of Trendiest, coolest Italian Bars in Florence

by Fritzanity about Capocaccia

This is amongst the most popular bars in Florence with 20 soemthing Italians. Anyone looking for the authentic experience should go here. They are nice to foreigners, and there is dancing, as well as a great aperitivo (cocktail/appetizer/happy hour) here. Good music, beautifully decorated, and few Americans. Look sharp or confident in whatever you wear.

If its not Gelato...its not italy ;)

by miso80 about Florence's Vivoli

Around 20 flavours of ice'd die for!! Yummy! This is a small, modest-looking of the best in Italy!

We went there after walking around for we turned a street corner..we saw the famous vivoli. At around 11.00 pm there was a long queue of gelato lovers awaiting their turn! Wow! When it was our turn, the choice was difficult...but the chocolate looks...mouth-watering, and the fruit flavors look so fresh.

But seeing in this not believing ;) Put that chocolate gelato in your mout...and let your heart melt away! The fruits will instantly refresh you...

Yummy! I think I want some now ;-) Tried 3 flavors (cause it was almost midnight)!! I don't usually like chocolate ice cream...but this will be like nothing you've ever tried...DON'T miss it!
