Lovely countryside

This was one of the most beautiful hostels I had the pleasure of staying in on my travels. Beside a vinyard, the hostel itself has gorgeous architecture (that it was even noticable sets it apart from most hostels). The smell in the garden - whatever flowers were creating it - is one of the best memories I have. They show free movies in the basement (though the sound quality was bad when I went), and the store doubles as a bar in that you can buy your drinks there and enjoy a leisurely tipple in the garden.

One of my favourite things about this place was that it was a slice of Tuscan countryside. However, some people might find this off-putting as it means you have to catch a bus into town. The buses come quite frequently, though, and are cheap. There is a curfew, as with many hostels, and they separate the men from the women (which I found more common in Italy than in some other countries). If these things bother you, then this is probably not the place for you. However, if you're looking for a nice quiet bit of tranquility at bargain prices, I recommend staying here.

Unique Quality: If I recall correctly, they have laundry facilities here, which, if you're backpacking, is a godsend.

Some hostal or 'Albergos'
but Florence Tuscany at Europa-Villa Camerata
Youth Hostel is a beautiful place to stay.
US$12 Dlls breakfast include

Unique Quality: The Villa containing the hostel dates from the 16th century and is within a huge green park. But that's not all. The garden that surrounds it is a very precious botanical garden containing rare and unusual essences of vegetables, patiently cared for by the elderly owner.

More about Villa Camerata Youth Hostel

If you're in need of a bed-CAMP

by ethereal about Ostello Villa Camerata-Camping

It's both the HI hostel and a camp groud, for those travellers that forgot to book their beds early and are stuck in Florence without a bed. You're provided a tent with ELECTRICITY, beds and sheets, and you're still more than welcome to use the hostel which is two minutes from your tent. So you don't have to use the outside showers, you can go inside and use them, breakfast and dinner is also available and all the other luxuries the hostel offers. For an amazing price of I think , 11 Euros

Nice and quiet hostel

by brighteyes79 about Europa Villa Camerata

The hostel is located pretty far away from the city center. You have to take a bus, then cross the street and walk about 400 mts via a nice, long, winding road to the hostel.

Once again, we weren't able to make reservations, but we were lucky enough to get a bed in one of the tents outside. The tents were big enough for 6 beds. A bit noisy at night.

Showers and toilets were in the main building. More toilets and wash basins at the bottom of the hill were the tents are located.

In the evening, we sat down at a big table with a lot of other people. There was a very nice athmosphere.

Breakfast (same thing as always) and sheets included. This hostel has rooms, set up tents with wooden floors and beds and a camp ground.

The building is also very nice and old and has something romantic and very, very Italian about it. The long road to the hostel makes this a unique place. The garden is also a nice and quiet place.

The is a hostel called YHA Ostello di Firenze Villa Camerata which offers a bed in a shared room for 15 Euro. I don't think you can beat that.
I have no personal experience, just found the site by googling.

Also look at www.hostelworld.com and www.hostelbookers.com

You'll find the vast majority of hostels listed on these sites.

Hostel prices are higher in the season, of course.

Also try contacting the hostels individually. I found one that was listed on hostelitaly.com for 30 euros, but ended up paying 22.5 euros by walking in that day. This might be a way to get a cheaper rate, but I'm not sure if you can get it down to 10 - 13 euros. Seems rather low. Also, hostels can vary quite a bit in quality and it can be worth it to pay a few euros more per night for a much nicer hostel.

If you don't mind roughing it you can camp! Camping Michelangelo provides tents that are already set up for only 10 euro a night. Each tent has a couple cots in it and can be locked. There is a bar that serves food and small store on site. I stayed there a few years ago and loved it.
You can find more info at www.camping.it/english/toscana/michelangelo
Good luck!
