Leather coats

by Slomovitz

About 8-10 years ago we were in florence and purchased leather coats for me and my wife at a store called Il Perseo, in business since 1978. The coats have worn very well and I would like to contact this vendor (if still in business in Firenze) through the internet?

thank you

Re: Leather coats

by Odinnthor

It is possible but it is really hard to go wrong in Florence when it comes to leather. Even back in the day on my tours, I would always wait for a stop in Firenze to update my leather garments.

You may know that the quality can be determined by how each side of the coat matches the other. How the hides are matched. Howe they have to make each panel from the same hide as the opposite panel, which is what raises the price, as more hides are needed for a single coat.

Do not know this particular shop, but here is what other VT members have to tell about buying leather in Florence. Surely you do not need the same shop, although I understand the reasons why. There is this need to inspect the leather on site, to assure consistent quality.

I haven't been about to find this shop using the Italian 'Yellow Pages'. Here's the results page:

Any chance you have the address from your earlier purchase? It would help us run this down...

Travel Tips for Florence

An amazing hotel

by pocockk

An amazing hotel in an amazing location. The rooms are nicely decorated and the bathrooms are very luxurious. It is on a hillside behind florence ad the view is stunning from the terrace. There is a bar at the hotel and drinking in the evenings and watching the city was lovely. The swimming pool was nice as were all of the grounds. If I was going back to Florence I would definately stay there again.

Baptism of Jesus

by littlesam1

This is the Baptism of Jesus found in the Museum Della Opera next to the Duomo. This piece stands in a hallway by itself and is not displayed very well. However when we came across it we had to stop and take in the beauty of the work. There was a stairway across from it and we were able to get pictures of it from several different angles as well as from overhead on the stairway.

Fiesole

by GeoDenia

Nestled in the hilly valleys between the Arno and Mugnone rivers, beautiful Fiesole offers spectacular views of nearby Florence (8km to the south) and is a welcome fresh-air retreat from the city bustle. The city readily reveals its Etruscan, Roman and Renaissance past, and as a summer retreat it has attracted the likes of Boccaccio, Proust, Gertrude Stein and Frank Lloyd Wright. Fiesole has a duomo, an impressive art museum and an archaeological site featuring an Etruscan temple and the remains of a Roman theatre and baths. Fiesole is especially popular as a picnic spot, and its fascinating winding streets offer atmospheric walks.

Vintage clothes

by fgfi about Vintage Selection Stazione Leopolda

The Vintage selection is an open-to-the-public event featuring quality vintage held at the Stazione Leopolda in Florence two times a year, during Pitti Immagine trade fairs
(January and June). You can find there lots of nice things such as dresses, knits, shoes, bags, belts, hats, scarves, costume jewelry, military clothing, denim and sportswear, for men and women. Most of the merchandise, including furnishing and home accessory collectibles, date from the Thirties to the Eighties. Everything is quite expensive, but if you are lucky an patient you could also find some good bargains!

Great Local Food!

by cmwheeler3 about Bordino

Not far from the Ponte Vecchio, remarkably untouristy. Lunch: anything: Fixed menus at E10 (Steak and salad) or E7 Pasta and then a main dish
For two E22 or about $30, yum

Dinner: Ravioli - to die for, about $30 per person with wine.
